Kennedy looked around her apartment and sighed. The place was spotless. Her sister had been at work all day and she was bored. Her sister wasn’t too pleased whenever she left the house without leaving a note. She still worried about her. Something about people taking advantage of her innocence, blah, blah, blah. She never paid attention to her anyways. Of course, her sister also worried about the fact that one day she’d phase while she was out and she’d never see her again. It was somewhat odd for Kennedy. She didn’t exactly have the temper of the other wolves. Her temper still sucked, but it took awhile for her to get to the boiling point. She was so sweet and kind that the anger sort of festered, and then when she finally got angry she exploded into this very large wolf. That was the problematic part of it. Kennedy still didn’t know how to control the angry outbursts. Her sister was trying to help her, but sometimes the trying didn’t help to much. All she could really do was make sure Kennedy didn’t phase in front of people. So far, it hadn’t happened yet, which was a good thing. The bad thing was, she wasn’t allowed to perform anymore. What if she phased in front of the crowd, or even just the rest of the performers? There would to be hell to pay, or death to pay. Unlike their parents, Kennedy’s sister cared about her well being and did not force her to be the cash cow. She wanted out. Just out of the apartment. She left a not, saying she was going for a walk. She took the cellphone, though she hadn’t really a clue how to use it. She just knew how to answer it and how to call the apartment. Otherwise the technology just confused her. She walked outside quite happily, her small frame blending in easily to the crowd. Eventually she got away from the more busy streets and wandered around a more barren part of Forks. Sometimes there were a lot of people there, but today it was just in a lull. That was fine for Kennedy. Sometimes a lot of people made her nervous anyways.
Suddenly the phone chirped, but not it’s usual ring. Curious, Kennedy looked down at the small electronic device in her hand. She flipped open the phone and it said ‘one new message’. Huh. What the heck did that mean? She put the phone by her ear like her sister showed her to and said, ”Hello?” She waited a minute, but there was no reply. ”Ellie? Ellie are you calling me?” she asked, the looked down at the phone. There was a button that said ‘ok’. The message said ‘open’. Was it ‘ok’ to ‘open’ it? Hmm. Hesitantly, she pressed the okay button, and words appeared on the screen. Perplexed, she read what it said. Kenny, come home now. Got a surprise for you. -Ellie. Well now, was the phone now able to transfer voice into writing? She looked down at the phone. It said ‘reply’. Hmm. She clicked ‘okay’ again and a blank screen came up. She lifted the phone to her ear again and spoke. ”Okay, I’m coming home,” she said, then looked down at the screen. Maybe Ellie got the words on her phone? Sure. She closed the small thing and put it back into her pocket before heading back to their apartment. She hadn’t a clue what her sister had been talking about, but then again that’s what surprises were anyways. She passed by a few people, but for the most part she made it to her home in record time. When she reached the apartment, she barely had time to put her key into the door before her sister was pulling her inside. She said something about getting changed and doing her hair. What did she have to do to her hair? Kennedy watched her sister as she ran frantically around the apartment, occasionally flinging clothes at Kennedy. Once her sister was done running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, she shoved Kennedy into her bedroom and forced her to change. She put on the clothes but didn’t feel all that comfortable. Everything was rather…short…and revealing…
”Uhm, Ellie, where are we going?” Kennedy asked while Ellie was forcing make up onto Kennedy’s face. Kennedy was promptly told to shut up and hold still, to which Kennedy rolled her eyes, but did anyways. After all the make up was applied to her face, she was forced to then sit in a chair while her sister curled her hair into nice waves. Crap, not the high heels, anything but the-- Her sister made her wear the high heels. Then, she was thrown into the car and her sister refused to tell her the reason for everything. All Kennedy knew was that she needed a good sweater and some tights to go along with her outfit, or therefore lack of. Eventually they arrived at a house with music playing and people entering inside. ”Ellie, are we going to another party?” Kennedy groaned, to which Ellie nodded with a smirk. This didn’t look like the same house as last time, but she figured the same sort of odd teenage mating dance was going on inside. She did not find parties amusing, not in the least, especially what happened last time. Fear struck through her heart. What if he was there again? Would he make her go upstairs again? She frowned to herself and sucked back the tears. Her sister would be very displeased if she found out what happened to Kennedy. She couldn’t let her know. Kennedy was dragged out of the car and up to the house, pretty much literally dragged. However, both sisters had equal werewolf strength, so eventually the older Oasis daughter won the battle and Kennedy was greeted with the overwhelming smell of alcohol, smoke, and drugs. Great, just great. Kennedy cringed and wandered into the living room, which basically was now the grinding room. Ew. She tried to balance her tiny little frame as she walked in the stupid high heels, which made her about four inches taller, which now made her average height for a girl. Way to go, shortie. She looked around nervously, not wanting to see the same boy with the stupid accent she met last time, but instead she saw someone else. She suddenly cheered up again, her fear sort of floated away. She smiled and teetered over to the boy she recognized. ”Hi, Lucas,” she said shyly but happily.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucas lay on his bed, quiet, thoughtful. He didn't have work this weekend, which was a plus for him, but then he had nothing better to do then lay there and think about life and things stupid like that. Lucas could care less about life anymore, his life kind of sucked, a lot. He lost everyone close to him, and that changed him dramatically. He was a totally different person, so says all the women at the 'house'. The house that cursed him, but he couldn't walk away from his so called 'family'. They were the only people he had left in his life, and he couldn't let them go. Lucas had been up there earlier this week, they weren't terribly busy, so they asked him to stay a while, catch up with them. So he had. He told them what had been going on, and that he had been a good little boy, and staying out of trouble. It's what they wanted to hear, so he gave it to them.
Carmen, his mother, insisted that he stay for dinner, but he wasn't in the mood to eat dinner with these women, so he simply told them that he had to work early, and needed to get some sleep. Carmen told him to come back soon, and that she missed him. She had never been a mother to him, but he loved her because she was trying to make up for lost time, but it would never work. Marrisa was his true mother, for god sakes, Carmen didn't even name him. She didn't even name Alicia, Lucas did that. The little girl didn't even see the age of five before she was killed. It was Lucas's fault, he knew that much. He shouldn't have taken her out to the park, and she would be alive. He could see hear her calling out for him. With these thoughts floating in his head, Lucas jumped up, he needed to get out of here. He had way to much time on his hands. He grabbed his jacket, and cell phone. He flipped it open, he had a text from his friend. He was throwing a party.
Good, this is what Lucas needed. A distraction from his life, his problems weren't just with Carmen, and his guilt. There was this girl, Kennedy. He had met her a few weeks ago, her sister had to get her car fixed, and Kennedy had been there. There was something strange about her, and Lucas couldn't get her out of his head most of the time. It annoyed him, no one got to him anymore. But something about her, it reminded him of Alicia. The innocence in her eyes, it almost made it impossible for Lucas to ignore. Almost. Lucas could walk the short distance to his friend's house. When he got to the house, many people were there. Lucas quickly found his friend, and exchanged a few words to him. Lucas slapped him on the back, and made his way over to the bar.
He wasn't sure what he wanted, he didn't want to get completely wasted. Not tonight, but he did want a strong buzz. He could smell smokes, he didn't smoke too much anymore. Lucas just grabbed a water from the fridge, he didn't want an acoholic beverage just yet. He walked into the living room, were there was a lot of action going on. Lucas sighed, and sipped on the water he had. It was still early, but a lot of people were hammered. It was amusing to Lucas to see people act stupid.
A cute blonde girl walked up to him, she was about, what sixteen? No, sorry Lucas didn't hook up with girls that young. He told her to scram because she was too young, he also told her she shouldn't be here. She was way underage to be here. This was like a party for eighteen and up. How the hell did she even get in here? Anyways, Lucas stood there listening to the music, and watched. He said hello to a few people, but remained silent for most of the time. Finally, Lucas switched his drink to a beer. Not much, but better then water.
Lucas got this strange feeling in his stomach. That's when he heard a soft, innocent sounding voice. His dark eyes moved to the side, and he saw Kennedy. Now, what was a girl like her doing here? She didn't seem like a girl that parties. He moved his eyes around the house and spotted Ellie, her older sister. That was why she was here. Lucas didn't want to be rude, but he didn't want to talk to her. Then again he couldn't leave her here. Some punk might try to take advantage of her innocence. Lucas sighed, and turned around to look at her. "Hey, Kennedy." How strange that she was here.
"Kennedy, what are you doing here?" He asked her, his voice was kind of iced over, but it had a gentle touch to it. Most people wouldn't have caught it, but it was there.
Every once and awhile she’d pull on the hem of the little skirt she had on, desperately wishing it’d grow a foot longer. She’d pull her shirt up, only to have it fall back down. Her wolf senses were on high tonight. Every little noise or movement near her she was on alert. A thought struck her; why would her sister take her to a party? Sure, Ellie probably had the wolf inside her more controlled than Kennedy did, but that was her point. Kennedy didn’t have as much control, and if she got too scared of everyone in here, there was always that danger of phasing in front of everyone. Or…on top of everyone. There really wasn’t a lot of room to move around in here. It was a good thing Kennedy had that tiny, tiny gymnast’s body because it meant she could fit into smaller or more crowded places. Not that she wanted to be in a crowded place in the first place, but that was besides the point. Kennedy sighed and let the music that she didn’t even know pulse into her ears. It was rather obscene music, but then again the people were dancing rather…ahem…scandalously. It made her very uncomfortable to be around them. They were all pressed up against each other; enough to make her want to go and vomit. Did they not know about a little thing called discrepancy? Apparently not. Her parents would have a heart attack if they were there.
Then again, Ellie had tried her very best to keep Kennedy away from their parents. It was only a matter of months before their other sister turned eighteen and she could move in with them. Ellie couldn’t wait for the day, and Kennedy was pretty pleased too. Of course, Ellie was happy for a different reason. Kennedy was the only Oasis sister that had really been completely brainwashed by their parents. And the brother, well, they didn’t care about him. It was sad to say, but oh well. He was so out of place anyways. Kennedy just wanted her two sisters with her, whereas Ellie wanted to make Kennedy normal, and get Parker away from their parents. She knew Parker was going crazy over there. Parker was getting into everything she shouldn’t have been, just to make their parents angry. Of course it made Kennedy angry too, but Ellie didn’t seem to care too much. Parker smoked, did drugs, drank, went to these sorts of parties; pretty much everything that Kennedy didn’t approve of, nor would any normal person. So at least she was normal in that sense. But Ellie was more like Parker than Kennedy was. Except, Ellie didn’t smoke or do drugs, but through in the aspect of hooking up with random guys at parties and there you had it. Kennedy just sort of did what she was told, despite the fact that Ellie was trying to get her to think for herself more often. That worked sometimes, but not a whole lot.
She sighed and looked around the room, not really sure what to do. She didn’t want to dance, she didn’t want to drink, she didn’t want to run into bad people again. She declined a few offers to drink whatever bad smelling liquid was in those evil little red cups from a few guys, and her nose was starting to hurt from the smoke that filtered throughout the room. Parties were hell on werewolves, or at least hell on her. Her sense of smell was so ridiculously sensitive that it made her stomach sensitive, like she wanted to throw up or something lovely like that. She played with her fingers nervously before wandering over to Lucas. She was always happy to see him, but she could sense that a lot of the time there was always something wrong with him. He always seemed a little bit upset or annoyed, though she hadn’t a clue with what. But she didn’t know much about him, just because he didn’t tell her a whole lot. But that didn’t deter her from talking to him. She liked being around him, he made her happy. Kennedy waited a moment, unsure if Lucas had heard her or not. Sometimes her voice was so soft that it was hard to be heard. Especially over the loud roar of this crappy music that seemed to pulsate through the entire house. ”Hi,” she replied with a smile, the thought of the fact that she already said ‘hi’ not really occurring to her. She was just happy that he had heard her and she didn’t have to start yelling just to be heard over the music. After awhile she probably would have given up on that.
Kennedy shrugged and nervously looked around. ”I dunno, I guess what everyone else is doing?” she said, not really sure of herself. She didn’t want to be hear, really she could just walk out, but she didn’t know how to get home, plus the thought of leaving him behind pulled at Kennedy in a way she didn’t understand. ”Well, uhm, actually,” she mumbled nervously, awkwardly standing there and playing with a strand of hair, ”Ellie kind of made me come here again.” That was the most displeasing fact of the evening. Maybe if Kennedy just told her what had happened last time, she wouldn’t have brought her here. Then again, Ellie might have just phased instead and ripped that stupid boy to shreds. Yes, that seemed like a much more likely possibility. ”So, uhm, yeah…” she muttered. Kennedy always found herself to be tongue tied around Lucas but she didn’t quite understand why. Maybe it was the same reason she was always happy to see him. Of course, she didn’t know what that reason was either. Kennedy absentmindedly pulled at the hem of her skirt again in attempts to make it grow longer, but soon was forced to give up. Her cheeks blushed slightly; she felt too exposed and it made her feel even more shy around him. ”What are you doing here?” she asked in return, mostly because she always found it was easiest to repeat the question back to the person, in hopes that that was what she was actually supposed to do. She wasn’t always the best at social interactions, but she tried.
Lucas sighed, so innocent. He really couldn't leave her there to fend for herself like her older sister. Lucas knew the kind of girl Kennedy was. She was easily persuaded, and didn't understand things like how people here understood things. If there was a god, he would hate if Lucas left her, so Lucas did not leave her. He stood there, watching her fiddle with the hem of her skirt. She seemed very uncomfortable. Why would Ellie dress her in such clothing? Not that she didn't look good in them, they just weren't something Kennedy should wear. She was a very pretty girl, and again to innocent to know what guys were thinking. Lucas mumbled something unitelligant, then quickly shrugged out of his jacket, adn put it over Kennedy's shoulders. He didn't like that she was so exposed to the guys here. She wasn't his, but he thought of his little sister, and how she reminded him of her. He would never let his sister be so reveled.
Lucas let silence fill the air, listening to the music. His dark eyes were still on Kennedy. He watched as she looked in horror at how the people were dancing. Lucas couldn't help but smirk the tinest bit at her. It was cute the way she was so clueless to things, but it could get her in trouble. Well, not really trouble, just taken advantage of. And Lucas didn't know why he cared about her getting taken advantage of, they weren't related. He barely even liked the girl, she annoyed him. The way she looked at him, and stuff. Made him feel as if she liked him or something. He didn't do relationships, everyone knew that. Everyone but her. He didn't tell her, he couldn't. He had a feeling that it might hurt her, and he didn't want to hurt her.
Lucas listened to her words, that was interesting. Lucas laughed a bit, then said, "I doubt that you're here to do the same thing everyone else is doing. You look horrified to be here." He was very amused with her, he knew that she would never actually come to a party like this. It just wasn't something someone like her did. Lucas on the other hand, this was what he did. He felt that he could let loose with people like this, and that he never had to be committed to someone made it all the better. Lucas nodded his head to her next few words. That's what he had thought, Ellie made her come. Lucas was about to say something when he went over her words again. Again? She had been to a party before? "You've been to a party like this before" Lucas was actually very disappointed in Ellie for dragging Kennedy to a party like this one.
Lucas watched her some more as she tried to think of something to say. She obviously not use to being social with people, espeically a boy. "I'm here because I was invited, and I have nothing better to do." He told her simply. Truth were interlaced in his words. Lucas felt uncomfortable lying to Kennedy. Anyone else he could do it to, but not her. He felt obligated to tell her the truth. "Do what something to drink? There's water and coke in the kitchen." Lucas was not going to give her an acoholic drink, no way.
Anyone that looked at Kennedy could tell that she was extremely uncomfortable. It wasn’t rocket science, yet no one really seemed to care. Well, Lucas seemed like he cared at least a little bit, since he was still there talking to her, rather than yelling at her and telling her to go away. But somehow, no one could ever really yell at Kennedy. She didn’t understand that, but she didn’t mind. She didn’t like to be yelled at. The only ones that ever did yell at her were her parents, but her sister had taken her away from them. So, now she just was sort of there at this party where no one really cared about her. Well, her sister did, but she was off somewhere, and now Lucas was kinda stuck with her. That was okay, she liked being around him. A lot. He seemed to constantly be on her mind lately, though she didn’t really know why. But she wasn’t going to complain; he had a very handsome face to be thinking about all the time.
Kennedy blushed and had to look down at the ground for a moment, otherwise she was fairly certain she was going to burn to the ground. ”Thanks,” she said, smiling sweetly at him. She couldn’t stand the clothes she was wearing. She felt like…well, like one of those girls that were dancing very inappropriately over there. His rather addicting scent was brought even closer to her and she had the brief notion of taking his jacket and keeping it forever. But then he might get cold. But she could warm him up, what with her ridiculously abnormal body temperature. Kennedy scrunched her eyebrows together and thought about what Lucas had said for a moment. ”Well, I can’t really deny that,” she said after a minute. ”But I don’t really want to do what they’re doing. No thank you,” she said, then nodded slightly at the second part of his slur of words. Yeah, she pretty much was horrified to be there.
There was no real point in bringing her to this party, so she didn’t understand why Ellie insisted on bringing her. Ellie knew that Kennedy didn’t have a good time last time, and she knew that she didn’t like being left alone around strange, high, drunk, and smoking people. That was not something Kennedy was a fan of. She frowned and nodded, looking around for a hesitant moment. ”Unfortunately. I didn’t want to go, nor did I want to go this time, but Ellie decided that I was going to come,” she explained. The next time that Ellie tried to drag her to a party, Kennedy was going to try that ‘just say no’ thing that Ellie had tried to teach her. Ha! Use her own words against her. That’s right, Kennedy was going to say no. … Okay, that probably wasn’t going to happen, but it was the thought that counted. She didn’t like to disappoint people, especially her sister, seeing as her sister cared for her the most. She’d probably end up at another one of these stupid things, being scared and bored all at the same time.
Kennedy nervously played with the zipper on his jacket, which was far too large for her but that was only expected when something of someone else’s was put on her frame. It covered more of her exposed skin anyways, so she definitely was not going to complain. ”Oh, well, that’s kinda sad,” she mused, not to be mean, but just because she usually said what was on her mind. She never said anything to purposely hurt people. ”Maybe you need a hobby,” she suggested with an innocent smile. Then he wouldn’t have to go to these awful parties where people were supposed to be having fun, but Kennedy never did. Kennedy’s eyes widened and she shock her head. ”No, no thank you,” she said quickly. ”I am never drinking from a red cup ever again. Not after last time. I know what you boys do with the red cups. No sir, I do not want to have sex with you,” she said, trying to be independent, but her innocence was rather overwhelming, as was the frightened look in her eyes. My, my, boys were rather up front about their red cup usage. Kennedy was most displeased.
As much as Lucas hated to admit this, he did enjoy talking with Kennedy, though he would never really let anyone here know this. especially not Kennedy. She was like a little kid, and well, that would be weird, right? To like someone who was innocenet like a little kid? Lucas didn't linger on the possiblities too long. Lucas had seen the blush on Kennedy's face after he had given her his jacket. As long as she was covered up, Lucas didn't really care. "Don't mention it."
Lucas gave her a small smile back, it wasn't like a big thing for him to smile because, well he didn't do it often. His smile never touched his eyes because he never got that happy anymore, so there was no point on him showing an emotion that wouldn't have been honest. People would be luck to even get a small smile from him. Kennedy was one of the only people that could actually make him crack a smile for some odd reason. Lucas laughed at her words. "Of course you don't,this isn't something that someone like you goes to." That was just simple as that. Kennedy didn't belong to a party like this, she was more like a girl who go to a party at Chucky Cheese, then to a party here. It could get crazy here, and if anything like that did happen, Lucas would take Kennedy home. Or something like that.
Lucas shock his head, and said, "Some of them aren't too bad. It's just the wrong peple get invited, and stuff." Lucas had been to many parties like this one, he didn't particularly like these kinds, but they did bring good entertainment. And he got some uses out of these types of parties, which meant getting his mind off of such things like his mother, and work. Sometimes getting high was the greatest thing, but tonight he was sober. Kind of, he hadn't drunk tons of beer or anything, just two or three. He hadn't even touched a joint, so he was sober.
Lucas was thoughtfully listening to Kennedy, which was shocking for him. He let his dark eyes look at her, and said, "Parties are my hobby though, besides working." It's true, he was too busy with this hobby, and getting into trouble to pick up another one. Mhm, he just couldn't handle another hobby. Plus, all the hobbies he picks up always get him into trouble. And finding a hobby is just too much effort, so Lucas was sticking with these ones.
Lucas held his hands up in front of him. "Chill out, I wasn't going to give you acohol Kennedy. i was going to--" Lucas cut off what he was saying. His dark eyes gazed at her, what the hell? "What the hell are you talking about? I would never even try that," he said, anger filled his voice. Why would she even think such a thing? "Who gave you the drink last time?" Lucas was having a hard time trying to control his voice. He had to remind himself that it wasn't her fault.
His scent was even closer to her tiny little nose and it was driving her insane for an inexplicable reason. It just made her heart flutter and her cheeks redden. Was it possible for a person to smell heavenly? Maybe she was just over exaggerating things. That was a likely possibility. Otherwise Lucas would have girls walking around smelling him all the time. Then again, he was a boy, so maybe he would like that sort of thing. Just to be safe though, Kennedy wasn’t going to walk around smelling him all the time. ”Oh, uhm, okay,” she said, a slight bit confused. Why did he not want her to mention it? That was odd, maybe it was not a proper custom to exchange clothing at these social gathering things.
Kennedy loved his smile. He didn’t seem to smile too much, especially when she watched him interact with other people, so she liked when he finally did smile. ”You should smile more often, you know. You wouldn’t want your face to freeze in a frown. Then you’d just look displeased your whole life. And I’m sure that can’t be the case,” she decided for him innocently. She wanted people to be happy, and she really wanted to make sure he was as happy as he could be. ”Yeah, really. You’d think she’d realize that by now,” Kennedy contemplated. She really didn’t like parties, especially not after what she found out happened at parties last time. ”There’s just nothing really all that appealing about parties to me,” she shrugged. Except maybe him, she added to herself in her head.
”And who would the wrong people be?” she asked, raising a curious eyebrow. Well, aside from thieves, murderers, and other assorted people. But she was strong enough to fend for herself on the physical front. Psychologically, not so much. ”Cause you know, if I’m going to be forced to go to these parties, I’d prefer it if I could go somewhere with the right people,” she reasoned. Pretty much any party he was at. She was surprised at herself for thinking those sorts of thoughts, but she also didn’t stop herself. She saw Lucas as her friend, and she thought it was normal for friends to want to get together and ‘hang out’ as they say. She just didn’t know if he thought the same thing or not.
Kennedy scrunched her nose slightly and shook her head a bit. ”That’s a bad hobby,” she said, nervously playing with the zipper of his jacket. Secretly she just hoped she wasn’t going to fall over in those stupid heels. She didn’t want to wear them last time, she didn’t want to wear them this time. But there she was, wearing them. ”Maybe you should knit,” she suggested obliviously. ”It could help get the stress away from your mind for awhile, focusing on a mindless task and whatnot,” she shrugged. She knew how to knit and sometimes she knitted scarves, then donated them to the homeless. It didn’t snow all that much in Forks and La Push, but it did get rather chilly sometimes.
Why was she being chilled? Did he want her to go into a freezer? To be honest, she was tiny, but she didn’t think she’d fit in the freezer. Maybe in the fridge if they took out the shelves. Kennedy looked up at him, slightly frightened; he seemed rather angry with her. ”I just, I--” she stuttered over her words, not knowing what to say that would make him not angry with her. She got sad in the heart at the sound of his voice being distraught with her. She didn’t like it. Not one bit. It was like she was punched in the gut or something. ”Uhm, a boy named Jersey,” she said softly, kind of worried now. ”And now God is going to be angry with me,” she said, her throat hurting a bit and her eyes stinging.
Oh god, this was going to one long night with Kennedy. Again, Lucas enjoyed her company, and for some strange reason he couldn't walk away from her, and just leave her there. He felt compelled to stay here, and watch over her like a big brother would do for a little sister. Of course, Lucas saw her as a little sister, if he saw her as something else it would be like him dating a littel kid, right? Or maybe Kennedy just needed to be exposed to the reality of things, and that everything isn't as it seems. But then she wouldn't be Kennedy, and that would be no fun. She was humerous when she was innocent, and didn't have a clue what was going on. So, now what was Lucas going to do about these weird feelings he was having for the girl he was suppose to ignore, and not like?
Lucas just looked at her, and smiled again. "Well, I don't like to smile, it takes too much energy. And why would I smile if I have nothing to smile at?" He asked her quietly. He really didn't have much to smile at, his life was crap. The only good thing he would or could smile at was standing right in front of him. Wow, that took a lot for Lucas to admit to himself. Now, just to say it out loud. Ha! Not! He was going to keep that his dirty littel secret for as long as he could because he wasn't going to tell her that. God no.
Lucas laughed, and said, "Next time just tell her no, it works. Trust me." It was good advice, Kennedy needed to use her voice, make her own choices. It would be good for her, well, Lucas thought so anyways. He could see why nothing was appealing to her at a party. Just look at her, she wasn't a party girl what so ever. Now, Ellie, she was a party girl. She was rebelious against whoever.
He sighed, and pointed over the corner to where a boy was sitting. "He is a dealer, stay away from him. If you talk to him, I might never see you again." His finger moved across the room to a girl sitting with a boy. "She is a whore, and will act really nice to you, as soon as she has your trust, she puts you out there for everyone to use and touch." Lucas looked back to Kennedy, and shrugged. "The right people aren't anyone, but the people you trust," he told her simply. Easy enough, he thought.
Lucas laughed, a bad hobby? Nah, it was his best one so far. Better then other things he's done before. Stealing, and things such as that were worse then parting all the time. Lucas rasied a brow at her. Knit? Seriously?"I'm going to pass on the knitting, I prefer something less girlie." Knitting was not something he was going to pick up on.
So, the offering her a drink wasn't the best idea because come to find out that some ass had given her a drink, and apparently taken advantage of her. This made Lucas mad, and it wasn't his normal mad. He was pissed. He tried to keep teh anger out of his voice because he could see the hurt in his eyes, he didn't want to hurt her. That was the last thing he wanted.
When she said Jersey's name, Lucas clenched his hand. He knew who Jersey was, that English bastard. Lucas looked a Kennedy, and said, "God is not going to hate you, or be mad at you." Lucas didn't know what to do, he wanted to comfort her, but he wasn't good at those kind of things. The only thing he could think of was hugging her, so he moved closer to her, and put his arm around her shoulder, and hugged her to him. "I'm sorry for yelling at you," he said to her softly.
Kennedy didn’t really know how to act around boys, to be honest. Then again, she didn’t really know how to act around anyone, did she? Kennedy was an enigma of some sorts. Even in her odd sort of Kennedy way she didn’t even fit in at church. She was much more devote than a lot of people there were, so she didn’t have friends there. Sure, she talked to a lot of them, but she always had trouble socializing with people because of the way her parents treated her. Now, socializing at this party was a whole different story, and a rather frightening one at that. Which, of course, was why she was having trouble talking to Lucas. She always felt like her tongue had swollen and she got tongue tied.
”It doesn’t take too much energy,” Kennedy laughed as if he was silly. ”It takes more muscles to frown than to smile,” she pointed out. So really he was just taking up more energy walking around sulking all the time. If he smiled, he’d be less tired. Or at least his mouth would be less tired. Close enough. ”I’m sure that’s not true. Everyone should have at least one thing to smile about in their life. Actually, two. One, the fact that they are living, and two, whatever extra thing there is to smile about that will get you through the day,” she decided optimistically. Lucas needed some more optimism in his life, she had figured. He seemed too sulky.
”I don’t know,” she mumbled hesitantly and bit on her lip. ‘No’ wasn’t exactly in her vocabulary when it came to responding to commands or demands from people. She was really just a people pleaser and didn’t want to make them upset. She figured by saying no, it would make them upset. ”Maybe, but I don’t know about that. She is my sister after all,” she replied. Kennedy would feel odd trying to defy her sister after all the help she’d given her. Of course, taking her to a party wasn’t exactly helping, but that was pretty much besides the point.
”I can’t play cards?” she asked in a confused manner. She never thought card dealers could be the wrong sort of people. They only served to enhance the playing of go fish. Though it was true, she did get rather distracted by go fish and he probably wouldn’t see her for the rest of the evening. Kennedy scrunched her nose up at the mention of the whore. Mary Magdeline was a whore, but she doubted that girl was on the same scale as Mary. Though, she didn’t like to judge people all that much, so she was just going to leave that one alone. ”Okay, that works, I think,” she said, slightly confused. How was she to know who to trust? Wasn’t that the same question as who the wrong people are? Well, reverse it a bit.
Kennedy liked Lucas’ laugh; her heart fluttered when she heard it. She rather liked when he was happy, or at least laughing. He was so much more vibrant and lively when he was like that. And it made her happy to see him happy. ”Hmm, alright, suit yourself,” she shrugged, not really fazed that he didn’t want to do it. A lot of boys seemed to have a particular aversion to knitting for some reason. She didn’t get how knitting had become more of a feminine thing, but that could just be because it was sort of like sewing, which was apparently also a mainly feminine thing. ”But I still think you need a better hobby.”
Kennedy knew it had been all her fault, and that was the worst part. If she had just gone home that night, none of the stuff with Jersey would have ever happened. She was such a terrible person, it was awful. ”Yes He will, I sinned and I can’t take it back,” she said, trying to control her watery eyes. Now she couldn’t wear white on her wedding day and she’d end up in Hell. Great, just great. To be honest, Kennedy was surprised when Lucas hugged her; pleasantly surprised though. But she just hadn’t pictured Lucas to be the hugging sort of person. She timidly hugged him back, her body much smaller against him. She was worried that her warmth might cause him to question things, but she was too caught up in him to not care. She heard his words and smiled slightly; rather glad he wasn’t mad at her at least. ”Can we talk outside on the patio or something? All this smoke and noise is bothering me,” she asked. Looking at the stars might help her to stop from crying in front of Lucas. That was the last thing she wanted.
Lucas shock his head, and looked out to the people on the dance floor. He could be one of those people out there, dancing, and getting down with a hot girl, but no. He stood right where he was with a girl that didn't understand anything. Lucas wished he hadn't came to the party now, well, then again he was happy that he came. Kennedy had some sort of pull on him, he enjoyed her company, but sometimes it was hard to explain things to her so she could understand. Lucas looked at her like she was crazy. Mhm, maybe she was? It wouldn't suprise Lucas one bit. But he knew that she wasn't, well, he wouldn't care if she was. Yeah, he wouldn't. He liked her crazy, it was just her.
"Yeah, but it's easier to frown, but that's my opinion." He told her simply, she was acting like he was crazy. Maybe he was crazy, one time he had called someone weird, and they said, "What if I'm normal, and your just weird?" Lucas had never thought that way before, but it made sense in a way. Why was he even thinking like this? He was not this kind of person, he really needed to stop the madness. Kennedy actually made him think about stuff. For example, this. God, she was so confusing to him, and he had no clue why he was feeling so weird and protective over her all the sudden. "I have things to smile for, most of the time. I just don't like to smile." Why was he having this argument with her? Lucas didn't these things anymore, usually with girls like Kennedy he would have walked away from them.
Lucas rolled his eyes, and said, "So? I'm going to teach you how to use that word one day." Lucas nodded, and sipped on his drink. Lucas knew how to use no all the time, he did it all his life. 'Lucas can you do this?' 'No.' It wasn't a hard word to learn to use, it fairly easy. Lucas couldn't really say no to Kennedy. She used the big blue eyes, and the innocences, and then Lucas was kinda hooked. And this was what he needed to avoid, he had done a damn good job at doing this until Ellie and Kennedy had walked into the shop that day, and she's been his mind since.
Lucas put his hand on his forehead, and rubbed his eyes. This was the last time he did this. Okay, he lied. He was sure he would see Kennedy again, but wasn't doing the explaining things to her again. It just got way to complicated. Lucas just nodded his head, and gave up on explaining things like this to her. Lucas nodded his head before sipping the drink again, then said, "I'll keep that in mind." Lucas wouldn't find a new hobby, and he knew it, he was just giving her the benifit of the doubt, and letting her think he would think about it.
This whole situation made Lucs angry, and sorta hurt him in a deep way. This wasn't Kennedy's fault, she didn'tknow what she was doing, and stuff. God. "No, don't worry about it, he'll forgive you." He tried to reassure her, but he wasn't really use to doing that. Lucas nodded, and walked with her towards the door, his arm still around her, protectively. Lucas opened the door, and lead her out to teh tiny porach. He leaned up against the rail, and looked down at Kennedy. "What happened?" He broke the awkward silence between the two.
Oh these parties. She didn’t really see how it was a party, per say. She always imagined parties to be happy and such. A lot of these people did not seem to be very happy. Then again, a lot of them also thought that drunk was a synonym for happy. They were seriously misguided little children. And some of them were just that, too! She specifically remembered some of them to be in grade nine when she graduated last year, so that meant they were probably only fourteen. Wasn’t the drinking age twenty-one or something? Then a thought struck her: dear God, was she going to go to jail now?! After all, she had had something to drink. Maybe she was just going to Hell instead. She didn’t really see that as a better place, though. Crap, crap, crap.
Kennedy thought for a moment, then shook her head. ”While I value your opinion, you’re weird,” she said with big blue eyes. She hoped that didn’t hurt his feelings. That was not her intentions at all. She just thought he was rather strange. How was something that required more muscles and energy more simple? That was probably the boy way to think about it, however. That was one thing Kennedy had definitely learned from guys; they were extremely confusing. ”Hmm,” Kennedy sighed. Lucas certainly was a difficult little boy, wasn’t he? Well, he was quite clearly several inches taller than her tiny little gymnast’s frame, but that was besides the point. ”Would you smile for me?” she asked with an innocent smile, almost as if to show him how it was done. It seemed like he needed to be taught how to smile.
”Well, I know how to use it,” she said, rolling her eyes and sighing. ”It just never really wants to come out of my mouth at the right times.” Now there was a true statement. She didn’t say no to Ellie, she didn’t say no to Jersey, she didn’t say no to a lot of people quite frankly, and look what good it had gotten her. Not a whole hell of a lot. Sure, she had met Lucas, and that thought alone made her surprisingly happy, but that was about it. Oh, and moving in with her sister. That was about a billion times better than living with her parents. ”How are you going to teach me?” she asked in confusion, her blonde brows furrowing slightly. She got the image of Lucas in a stuffy teacher’s suit at the blackboard while she sat writing notes in a binder. Somehow she didn’t think that that was what Lucas meant.
”Are you okay?” she asked in concern. He seemed like he was in some sort of distress, or at least some sort of mental distress. Perhaps he could not play cards either? Well, she supposed that could be rather annoying, seeing as she was kind of annoyed with it, but she didn’t see a reason why he should get so hot and bothered about it. Kennedy laughed and highly doubted that Lucas was going to find himself a hobby. He didn’t seem like the type of person that really wanted to take all the much initiative. That was alright, she could help him. Especially if it meant spending more time with him. Though Kennedy felt kind of awkward right now, she was glad that Lucas was done yelling at her. She didn’t like it when he was like that. ”How could He possibly?” she asked him with sad eyes.
When Kennedy got outside she was rather thankful. Thanks to her nice little wolf senses, she could smell everything extra strong. That meant she could smell everything extra strong, including the bad smells. That made it hard to breathe at times like these. Kennedy bit her lip and wasn’t really sure what to say. She sat down on one of those patio chair things and fiddled with her fingers. She looked up at the sky; what a clear, beautiful night. ”Ellie took me to a party but I didn’t want to go,” Kennedy shrugged with a heavy sigh. ”Then this guy started talking to me and gave me a drink that tasted like juice. I don’t think it was,” she said fairly certain it was that nasty alcohol. ”Then he said he’d help me find Ellie, but he brought me to a bedroom. Then…uhm…” she said, not really wanting to say the next words. It did not feel right to her.
Lucas rasied his brow at her. Him weird? Well, that made sense in a weird way, she was weird to him, he was weird to her. Yeah, that made perfect sense if you lived a twisted, and sick world. Oh, look they did live in a twisted and sick world. So, yes, that made perfect sense to him. God, he needed to get his mind setting straight. Two weeks ago he would have never been caught with someone like Kennedy, hell, he wouldn't have even been think about her two weeks ago. Damn, damn, damn. He was screwed to a fine point, wasn't he? He got himself deep in this one, and he just couldn't let her go. Damnit! "I suppose I could." He said quietly.
Lucas smiled nicely at her just to prove that he could smile. "See? I can smile, and I smiled just for you. So, you can't say I never didn't." Lucas raised his brow again, and shook his head at her. This girl really needed to put no in her vocabulary, it would help her greatly in this cruel, and cold world. "We'll have to work on that then." He nodded his head to his statement, and left it at that. Lucas was going to teach her how to use the word at the right time, and she was going to like it. So would he, suprisingly. "I have no clue yet." He smiled again at her, wow. He could get use to smiling, it had been forever since he had done it this freuntly.
Lucas nodded his head at her, "I'm fine, just..worried about you, that's all." Holy mushroom sauce, he just told her he worried about her. Oh god, damn! Lucas looked at her, how was he going to tell her that He would forgive her. "Kennedy, you didn't know what you were doing. Someone took advantage of you, and that's not your fault. He understands that kind of thing."
Lucas didn't really know how to comfort her with that, but he was sure in hell knowing how he was going to "comfort" Jersey the next time he saw him. That stupid English guy thought that he could get any damn girl he wanted, well, that was going to be over Lucas' dead body. Jersey was going to have hell to pay for hurting Kennedy. The more she told him, the angery he got. Not just with Jersey and Ellie, but with himself. He didn't really understand why, but he was just mad at himself for everything that had happened to Kennedy.
"Kennedy, I promise he won't ever hurt you again, not as long as I'm here." He told her, and he couldn't he said that either, but it felt right to say it to her.
Kennedy secretly considered this a victory. Really, she did. After all, if he claimed it was so hard to make him smile, and he smiled around her, then technically she was very good at that game. Was this even a game? Still, she didn’t think he smiled all that much. Even when he did actually smile, most of it seemed like the corners of his mouth raising slightly upwards. She was still waiting for a full out toothy grin, as they said. She wasn’t sure who ‘they’ in question were, but someone, somewhere said it to begin with. ”I’m glad to know you think of me as something worthwhile to smile about,” she said shyly, dropping her bright blues to the ground.
There it was again, that unnatural pull to him whenever she was around him. It was so weird, almost as weird as Lucas was himself. The scent of him coming to her from his jacket, his soft voice focusing on only her: it really was something that made her knees turn into Jell-O. Oh dear, that couldn’t be good, now could it? She rather did not think so, but then again, she was often wrong. Her mood was significantly lifted when he smiled for her, just for her. ”I kind of like it when you smile just for me,” she said, rather nervous all of a sudden. Well, she was always kind of nervous around him, but this was more so than usual.
Hmm. It seemed like they were going into this with their eyes closed. She didn’t know how he’d be able to teacher her if he didn’t have a lesson plan or something of that sort, but then again she was thinking back to the teacher in a stuffy suit. Lucas was not the suit type of guy (though she thought he’d look mighty dashing in a tux. Where he would ever have the need to wear a tux, she hadn’t a clue). But rather than asking out loud, she just smiled sweetly back at him and questioned things in that blonde little head of hers.
Kennedy didn’t quite understand why he was worried for her. There was no logical reason for him to be. Well, she couldn’t think of one, which generally meant there totally was a real reason. ”Why are you worried about me? You weren’t the one that did anything,” she wondered, unsure of how he was going to reply. Kennedy scratched her head for a moment and pouted. Somehow it still seemed wrong to her. At least she wasn’t Catholic; they were even more strict about things than her religion was. ”I just hope you’re right,” she sighed heavily.
Kennedy smiled a little bit, though she was also very confused. Lucas was not a wolf like she was, therefore he couldn’t really protect himself. Especially since Kennedy, a werewolf, found herself unable to avoid the situation. Of course, it was probably different than she was making it out to be, as usual. She stood up from the chair thing and went over to Lucas. He was much taller than her, though in the terrible heels Ellie put her in, it helped only slightly. She pat his head and smiled sadly. ”Thank you, Lucas. You’re a good friend,” she decided. Though she felt like she liked him more than just a friend, but she didn’t really understand it. She sighed for a moment and looked up at the stars. Hmm. ”Lucas, do you mind if we leave this party thing? I don’t really like it here,” she asked him. If he didn’t want to leave, that was fine (though the prospect of it made her rather sad), but she wanted to get out of there.
Yeah, sometimes Lucas thought of Kennedy as something to smile about. Seriously, how could you not laugh or smile around someone like her. It was like she was meant to make people smile because of how clueless she was. Lucas didn't mean it as a mean thing, it was just kind of funny how she saw things. He didn't think that was a good way of being rasied because well, that wasn't how the real world was, now as it? Lucas would know, well, his world was a tad bit worse then the real world. His past wasn't something he liked to think about all that much. He figured it was the past, but he still had ghoast that haunted him, and when he looked at Kennedy, they were right there behind her. It was either something, 'she's had a sheltered life, bet you wish you had one'. The other was more like, 'look at that, that's what your sister would have been like if you hadn't gotten her killed'. Right now it was a little of both mixing together, Lucas tried to shake the feeling, but it just wasn't leaving him.
"Uh, no problem." Hm, how awkward right then. Well, he was use to awkward, right? No, wrong, he was use parties, drinking, girls, and all things that a guy could ever want. Awkward was never a part of that, and well, le bam! She walks in, and what does he get? Awkward! Oh, Lucas knew what his 'friends' would be thinking if they saw him with Kennedy. It'd be like, 'Duuuuude! No way, I know you aren't gonna score with that!' See, then Lucas would have to be the crap out of someone because, he didn't view Kennedy as someone he would take upstairs for an hour or two. Lucas re-evlauated the situation, and decided that he wouldn't take her upstairs at all. Epscially not here, oh hell no. Maybe when they were older? That was a maybe, but right now? No, absolutely not. "Well, I'm glad that this makes you happy."
Truthfully, this whole situation scared the hell out of Lucas. He sighed, and said, "Because that kind of experience changes a person. That sort of thing stays with you your whole life, and it should be for that special person that you fall in love with." If Lucas had been raised right, he would have waited, but that's what you get for being raised in a whore house. He was prety sure if he was raised in a normal home, he would have turned out normal, well, as normal as possible. He probably wouldn't havebeen involved with bad people, his sister would be alive, and he would most likely be in college for something that would make him rich.
Lucas hoped he was right too, so he just didn't say anything to her about that. He was pretty sure that God would understand, a girl like her being taken advantage of by a guy like Jersey. Yeah, God would understand. Lucas smiled for her to try and make her happy, he didn't like seeing her sad because well, she just wasn't a sad person by choice. "You're welcome, Kennedy."
Lucas looked at her, and nodded. "Sure, do you want me to take you home?" The party wasn't even that fun. There were too many underage girls here, and he didn't feel like going to jail for accidently sleeping with one of them, and them going home and telling their mommy or daddy, then Lucas would have the police at his door taking him away in cuffs. Then who would watch over Kennedy? Certainly not her sister, so it would Lucas's job now. He felt obligated to do this.
The one benefit of being Kennedy was the fact that she often found herself to be blissfully oblivious of the things going on around her. Of course, that could be a bad thing at times, but at other times it would come in very handy. Right now was pretty much of those handy times, because thanks to her oblivion she didn’t even notice how oddly awkward Lucas seemed to be. Kennedy on the other hand was smiling happily and trying to ignore the very loud and very drunk people that were very close to her. The smell of alcohol and smoke made her stomach feel like crap, but she couldn’t really say anything. She was sure other people could smell it, but not to the extent that she could. So really, complaining about it would mostly make her seem really weird, or just really annoying. She didn’t want to be either of those two things.
”Very happy indeed,” she said with a decisive nod. He really didn’t know just how happy he made her. She felt to shy to tell him that, scared that he might react badly. She decided that she was happy with the way things were. He made her happy, therefore she would continue to talk to him. Then again if he decided that he didn’t want to talk to her ever again so that he would be happy, she would stop talking to him. But if that was the case, she had a feeling she’d be awfully depressed for the rest of her life. For some reason, whenever Lucas was around, she always felt like all of her emotions were just magnified by a hundred. Plus, she just wanted to have him be happy. Of course, she was like that with everyone.
”Oh,”
Kennedy mumbled, her heart dropping in her chest. ”Is that person going to be mad at me?” she asked him, unsure of what would happen. If she fell in love with someone, she didn’t want them to hate her and never want to speak with her because she had sex. That would make her feel absolutely awful, considering she didn’t even want to have sex and it wasn’t all that comfortable. Thankfully she couldn’t exactly remember everything that happened. Of course that also meant she was far too intoxicated, which was an awful thing in its own right, but whatever. It wasn’t like she was pleased with that either, but she’d rather be drunk than not a virgin. At least with alcohol you can just never drink again. It wasn’t like she had a time machine and go back to punch Jersey in the face.
She smiled sadly and fiddled with her fingers. She was nervous, she was awkward. She didn’t really know what to do anymore. How was she to know who to trust? What if she fell in love with someone who didn’t love her back, but then just decided to have sex with her anyways, then through her away? ”Maybe I should become a nun,” she said with a sigh as she rested her elbow on her knee, then her chin on her hand. She looked up at Lucas with her bright blue eyes and looked at him for a moment. Every time she saw him her heart went crazy and she got butterflies. That couldn’t be healthy. Maybe she needed to go to the doctor to get that checked out. Then again, Ellie said she couldn’t go to a normal doctor. She had to go to one specific doctor that knew how to deal with werewolves.
”That would be much appreciated,” she said. It might have helped if she knew how to get back to the apartment the sisters shared, but she was sure she could figure it out eventually. As they wandered down the streets she looked down at her feet. The high heels were stupid and she felt like she was going to fall over with every step. ”Hold on a second,” she said, then held onto Lucas’ arm to balance as she took off the stupid shoes. For a moment she briefly forgot how hot her skin would be on contact, but as she let go of his arm she silently cursed herself. She carried her shoes in one hand continued walking. The good thing about being a werewolf? You could walk around bare foot and it didn’t hurt. ”Do you even know where I live? Cause how are you going to get home from their?” she asked him, rather concerned that once (if she remembered how) they got to her house, he’d be the one that would be lost and clueless.
Forgive me, I'm trying to find My calling, I'm calling at night
Okay, so maybe he shouldn't have told her that, but it was true. That experience was meant that speical someone she loved. "No, I don't think they will. Most people understand the kind of thing that happened to you. I'm sure that person will understand, and love you just the same." Lucas would understand something like that, he wouldn't just not love someone because of something bad that had happened to them. That's why he still loved his mother, even though she chose her lifestyle, he still had to love her. And she was never really a mother, but hey, you can't chose your family. There were somethings you just had to stick out, and get over it. Like your mother being a whore, and being out on your own at a young age. That kind of thing wasn't Lucas's choice, that was his mother's. She could been a nice lady with a nice family, but no, she chose a stupid life, and Lucas couldn't do shit to help her.
Sure, he gave her and her friends money every week, but that's about all he could do for them. Lucas let out a small laugh when she said she should become a nun. That would be weird, he couldn't picture her a nun, she'd seem so different like that. "A nun? That's a bit extreme don't you think? I mean you'd have to give up a lot of things. Have you ever seen Sister Act? You should watch that movie, it's very funny, and it involves nuns," he told her. Gah, she had those big blue eyes that always made him feel weird. Maybe she was using hypnosis on him. Did she even know what that was? Lucas doubted it.
Lucas looked at her as she tried to get her shoes off. It was a bit cold for that, wasn't it? Oh well, she did feel like she was running a fever of some sort. He'd have to talk to Ellie about it whenever he saw her again. "Well, no I don't. But Forks and La Push are pretty small, so I'm sure I can find my way back." Lucas looked at her for a moment, then asked, "Do you know where you live?" Hm, maybe he should go ask Ellie or something because they certainly couldn't wander around Forks and La Push until Kennedy recognized her own house. They would look weird. Oh well, Lucas reached down, and took Kennedy's hand, and held it in his.
