open for patrollers (:
Sighing, Sam rolled over onto his side. Fatigue teased him, pulling heavily at his lids. He knew it was early, ridiculously early. He also knew that meant he was going to have to wake up soon for patrol. Why he had decided to take the early morning shift this month he didn’t know. Why did they even have an early morning shift? Couldn’t they just have a regular morning shift? Who the hell came up with these patrolling schedules? Sam was seriously going to have to restructure that whole deal. Patrols had been growing so big now that he was able to give some pack members more spread out patrols. Back in the day when it was just him, Jake, Quil, Embry, Paul, and Brady things had been hard. The boys had to run shifts constantly, neglecting school and social lives at times. It was hard, but then things got a lot easier when all of a sudden wolves started springing up like a wild mushroom. Every other day it seemed a new wolf was appearing on Sam’s doorstep asking to join his pack or the patrollers were stumbling across new wolves in the middle of phasing. Some wolves phased automatically into Jakes pack, and those wolves Sam left well enough alone. Sometimes he would send someone to check and made sure someone from Jake’s pack was there to explain to the newcomer what was happening but there was nothing much else that could be done. The wolf couldn’t hear Sam’s wolf when they were phased, and Sam wasn’t about to put one of his guys in danger by making them phase back into their human form.
The alpha could hear the gentle breathing of his wife, Emily, beside him. He smiled sweetly, turning back over towards her. He pressed his lips gently against her shoulder, neck, and side of her face. His kisses were soft and he yearned to just lie in bed with Em all day but he knew he couldn’t. He didn’t want to wake her so he left his greeting at that and slowly slid out of bed. He grabbed his backpack which had been placed by the bed room door and slung it over his shoulder, heading out into the hall. He could hear the light, unburdened breathing of his little sister Tamaya as she slept in her room across the hall. He smiled lightly, content to see his family safe. His steps were light as he made his way downstairs and he found no one in the living room for what seemed like the first time in a long time. His house was always open to the pack and more often than not he came downstairs to find a werewolf or two crashing on the couch. This morning, there was no one. It was nice to see that his family finally had their house to themselves but he knew it wasn’t going to stay that way for long. It was only a matter of time until the wolves began showing up and soon after Emily would be up and bustling around the kitchen cooking them all a nice hearty breakfast. Sam noticed that Tamaya was beginning to help out in the kitchen more often as well, which was interesting to see. Being with Caden had definitely changed the headstrong little girl.
Sam reached the kitchen and grabbed a handful of granola bars, stuffing them into his backpack. He opened the fridge and snagged a bottle of water, twisting the cap off and taking a swig of the freezing cold liquid before he grabbed his truck keys off the counter and made his way out of the house. He heard a rustle in the forestry that surrounded the house and knew that one of his wolves was stationed there. It was most likely Caden, and sure enough the wolf came trotting towards the edge of the forest and gave a friendly nod. Yep, it was Caden. Feeling more at ease, Sam jumped into the truck and made his way into town. He quickly ate his way through the granola bars, taking a sip of water every now and then. When he made his way down one of the many abandoned roads in La Push, he pulled his truck over to the side of the road and tossed his backpack into the bed of the truck. He stripped off the pajamas he hadn’t bothered to change out of and tossed them into the back along with his keys. Like anyone was gonna even try to steal his truck. He’d be able to get them before they even opened the door. The alpha closed his eyes and within seconds he was in his wolf form. Voices instantly filled his head with friendly chatter and he bounded off into the woods to meet with the others on patrol.
