Darien remained still other than whiping the spot of blood from the corner of his mouth. He'd scared the hell out of this woman, but she was remained. With any luck that was a good sign. Relaxing his posture he breathed slowly his voice calm and soothing as he spoke, "Miss, you're safe. I won't hurt you. If I'd wanted to I wouldn't have given you the time to see me coming and prolong things."
Using painstaking care to move slowly he held out his hand, "It's dangerous out here, let me get you safely back to civilization. You never know who's going to be out here." He smiled kindly at her, "Judging from the direction you came from, you're from La Push. I can't go anywhere near there, but I'll get you into Forks. Is there someone you can call to come get you?"

Rebecca was still telling her legs to turn and run but they seemed to be rooted to the spot. Her eyes were wide and she knew that her heart had to have been beating at a hundred miles a minute. It felt like all it wanted to do was burst out of her chest but instead it remained where it was and just tried to see how fast it could go. Staring at the man in front of her, Rebecca felt a chill run down her spine as he began to talk. His voice was extremely soothing and while it did relax her there was a voice in the back of her mind that seemed to be screaming it was all an act. Vampire's were supposed to be good at seducing people towards them. Rebecca knew that his words were true and if he wanted her dead she'd have never seen him coming.
Looking down at his hand as he extended it to her, Rebecca felt another chill run down her spine. His words really didn't reassure her and she couldn't help thinking that not only were the woods dangerous but she was probably talking to the most dangerous creature in it. Thinking it was probably best to just go along with whatever the man said, Rebecca found herself reaching out and placing her hand in his. The second her hand touched his she gasped and recoiled from the touch before looking up at the guy with fear in her eyes. His hand was cold. She hoped he didn't take offense to her reaction and she hoped that he wouldn't change his mind about killing her as she carefully put her hand in his again. This time she fought the urge to pull her hand out of his cold grasp.
"I.....I can call my brother to pick me up." Rebecca said with a hint of nervousness in her voice as she let her fingers close around his hand. Part of Rebecca wondered if she was really going to be given the chance to call Jacob and another part of her, the optomistic side of her said that she would. That part of her was wondering if Jacob would scold her for going into the woods alone. That part couldn't help but think of how amusing it would be for the younger brother to scold his older sister.

Seeing her initial reaction to his touch Darien chuckled, "Sorry, perpetually cold hands." His smile turned thoughtful when she replaced her hand and didn't pull away the second time, "If it makes you more comfortable I"m only dangerous to things trying to kill pretty damsels in distress and well, we'll just leave it at that for now shall we. You arent the type that needs to be frightened of me." His hand very lightly squeezed hers in reassurance as he stepped forward gently pulling her in a walk towards Forks, as promised.
At the mention of her brother Darien reached slowly into his pocket with his free hand and pulled out his cell phone, "I get service just about anywhere including out here. Why don't you give your brother a call now and let him know we're about a half hour outside of town. See where he wants to meet us. I wouldn't want anyone worrying about you unneccesarily. My name is Darien Lau."

Giving the guy a rather weak and nervous smile in return to him saying that the only things that needed to fear him were things that tried to kill pretty damsels, Rebecca wondered if he thought she was being rude. In truth she knew she was being a bit rude but she couldn't help it. The thought that she was in the woods with a man who could kill her in the blink of an eye had Rebecca feeling extremely nervous. She knew he said that she was safe with him but the color of his eyes and the cold rock hard feeling of his hand in hers had her wondering if she really was.
Moving forward as Darien gave her hand a gentle tug, Rebecca followed him in the direction of Forks. For a few seconds all she could think of was her hand in his cold marble like one but when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye Rebecca turned and part of her expected an attack. When she saw him pulling out a cell phone instead she couldn't help feeling surprised and she was sure it probably showed on her face but she quickly tried to wipe it away as she took the phone from him. Part of her wondered if this was just a trick and she wondered if he was just trying to get her to call somebody before he killed her as some sort of sick and twisted mind game.
With the phone in her hand, Rebecca called her brother and wondered if he'd answer. Outside of him the only other person she could call was Sam but she'd only seen him a couple times since she'd returned from Hawaii. The had been best friends in school before she got left and while she would have liked to have that friendship back she wasn't sure if they would ever get it to where it once was since he obviously had a wife now and they couldn't exactly spend all their time together.
"Jacob." Rebecca said when she heard her brother's voice on the other end of the line. She couldn't help the small hint of relief that entered her voice when she heard her younger brother's voice and when he asked what was up and where she was calling from because he didn't recognize the number, Rebecca began to explain her situation. "I'm actually using the phone of a guy named Darien Lau. I was running in the woods when a mountain lion tried to attack me but Darien stopped it. He says we're about a half hour from Forks. Can you pick me up?"
When Rebecca told Jacob about what had happened, her younger brother seemed to get quiet for a few seconds before telling her to meet him at the Welcome to Forks sign just outside of town. He also told her to tell him that if anything happened to her he would make finding Darien his top priority. Feeling extremely nervous and a bit scared at the prospect of telling Darien her brother's threat, Rebecca just nodded. "All right. Thanks."
After hanging up the phone, Rebecca handed it to Darien and with a weak smile she said: "My brother said he'd meet us outside of town at the Welcome to Forks sign." Although part of her was saying to give the rest of the message, Rebecca didn't want to upset Darien while he still had her hand in his. Plus she wasn't exactly sure of what her brother could do against a vampire so she just left that part out. Instead she just looked up at Darien and said: My name's Rebecca."
She was hoping that if Darien was planning on killing her that maybe knowing her name could make him think twice about it.

Darien smiled slightly if his own children were any indication he didn't imagine her brother was happy with a stranger guiding his sister to safety. Once she was off the phone he took it back taking care to continue moving slowly, "Good, that will be closer to home for me." he reassured her, "It's nice to meet you though perhaps if we meet again it will be in better circumstances." He winked at her.
Seeing her still boiling with nerves he used his persuasion just lightly enough to try to get her to relax and gave her the smile he gave most attractive women, "Let me call my son and daughter quick. I told them I'd buy dinner tonight." Opening the phone he dialed quickly, "Ana'lise I'm going to be a bit late. Why don't I meet you both at the restaraunt and I'll explain later. No, no trouble just someone needing some help. You know your father too well Ana, women in trouble are my specialty. Tell Lucas he can stop worrying about you going to Seattle, no I heard they found the serial rapist outside the city. Attacked by some sort of animal. Alright, I love you. Bye."
Hanging up he put the phone away and released Rebecca's hand resting his on her shoulder and moment before tucking both hands in his pockets, "My kids are twins and not really kids anymore I guess. Lucas is a bit protective of his sister." He explained, "So, how many siblings do you have?" His question was casual as he decided to distract her with small talk. Meeting a vampire, by yourself in the woods would be terrifying for her. There was no need to let her suffer during the long walk to Forks by letting her alone with her thoughts.

Rebecca did nothing but smile when Darien said that perhaps the next time they met they could be under better circumstances. Part of her was saying that she hoped they never met again but another part of her, the curious part of her, hoped that they would meet again. She knew that she shouldn't want to meet him again because of what he was, but she had never believed in the stories that her people had told. She didn't believe the cold ones were real. As that thought past her mind she realized there was more to that. If the vampires were real...were the werewolves?
Although Rebecca did hear Darien on the phone, his words didn't really register. She wasn't really paying attention to his phone call since it didn't involve her and in her mind she was thinking about her peoples stories. If they were....Rebecca's eyes widened for a second as she remembered the most recent of the stories. The one that involved her grandfather and the Cullen's. Did that mean that her family carried the shapeshifting gene? Was it possible for her to change? The idea fascinated Rebecca and she found herself eagerly looking forward to going home and rereading all the old legends to find out if she could become a werewolf.
Looking over at Darien when he addressed her, Rebecca smiled slightly. "I think all brother's are protective of their sisters. My brother is younger then my sister and myself but that doesn't stop him from being protective of us."
Not bothering to answer the question since she had basically told Darien how many siblings she had, Rebecca looked out among the trees and wondered if there were other vampires in the woods or maybe even werewolves. After a few seconds of silence she looked over at Darien again. He hadn't tried to kill her yet so that was a plus which made her think that maybe he wasn't all that bad. "Ummm.....I hope I don't seem rude or anything but.....are your kids really your kids or did you......I mean.......?"
Rebecca trailed off in embarrassment since she wasn't too sure of how to ask Darien if his twins were biologically his or if he had just been the one to turn them.

Darien chuckled at the question, "Ana'lise and Lucas are mine. Their mother was a human, so they're hybrid." His laugh was because he probably would have wondered the same thing in her shoes, "Male vampires can procreate with a human, female vampires can't have children of their own however. The twins have reached the age where they'll never grow older now, at least not physically. If you have questions, I'll answer everyone of them while we're still out of town and away from other people. I don't mind."

Rebecca listened to Darien's answer and found her eyes getting a bit wider. His children?! Male vampires could get a human pregnant with their child. How was that possible? Weren't they supposed to be dead? Shouldn't the ability to create a life stop after you died? It just seemed extremely odd and a bit creepy to Rebecca to hear that a human could get pregnant by a vampire. In a sense the human was making love to a corpse! The thought sent a chill down Rebecca's spine but at the same time she knew that the human probably never even realized what the vampire was.
"What happened to their mother?" Rebecca asked before she could stop herself. Biting her tongue she looked forward and realized that it probably wasn't any of her business. Darien probably took his kids and didn't tell her what they or he was. After all, she probably wouldn't have believed him.
As Rebecca thought about the mother she also found herself wondering what it had been like to be pregnant with hybrids. What were they like? If they were part vampire did their kicks and hits hurt more then a normal baby's would have. Was their anything different about a pregnancy with a vampire's baby then with a human's child?

Darien took a deep breath as if he'd been punched in the gut and remained quiet a few moments before talking. His smile faded to a look of remorse, "She didn't survive childbirth. When she told me she was pregnant, I couldn't believe it. It was like being given a second chance, I'd felt cursed." he shook his head, "I should have known better. Back then any vampire being able to create life was unheard of. I tried to save her, the only way would have been to change her. By the time I knew she was in trouble it was too late. If she'd only been carrying one, then maybe, twins was too much. The twins were much stronger than their mother and hybrids develop faster than a normal baby would. Pregnancy lasts a month tops."
He looked down at Rebecca sadly, "I loved her and being with me killed her. I've been careful since then, extremely careful." Not wanting to feel the blame and disgust he was certain he would see he returned his gaze to the forest, "The hard part is if I could turn back the clock, change things knowing about my kids... As selfish as it sounds I couldn't and if she's watching I don't think she'd want me to. I have a talent, one I'm working hard not to use on you. I can influence people, you're the second woman other than family I've met that I haven't used it on. Except to be sure you didn't run and have that mountain lion come screaming after you. That was for your own good." he justified.

"Oh wow! Ummmm.....I'm sorry to hear about that." Rebecca said as she bit her lip then looked straight ahead. How was she supposed to react to that? His children had in effect killed their mother in order to be born. Apparently vampires, even babies, were natural born killers. However the babies were a bit worse to Rebecca since they killed their own mother in order to be born. Rebecca knew that she probably shouldn't feel that way but she couldn't help it. She knew that they were babies and didn't really know better but they did kill their mother. Part of Rebecca wondered if she took it a bit personally since she had lost her mother at a young age and would love to have her back, but whatever the reason, Rebecca still couldn't believe it.
"What do you mean influence others? What kinds of things could you possibly make me do?" Rebecca asked as she turned to look at Darien curiously while at the same time she felt extremely nervous again. If he could make her do anything then what guarantee did she have that she would reach the welcome sign to see her brother? Part of Rebecca was itching to run but she knew that she wouldn't be able to outrun Darien if he really did want to make a meal out of her.

Studying her a moment he smiled thoughtfully, "They only eat normal human food unless they get injured or hurt which is rare. Then they choose animal blood and only enough to heal themselves. I'm the only monster of the bunch. They didn't kill their mother, childbirth did which can happen with normal human babies." His voice was gentle and carefully nonjudgemental.
Having a few moments to think about what he could persuade her to do he responded honestly, "I could get you to do anything. From something as simple and embarassing as picking your nose in public; to what some sicko's would use it for such as complete unquestioned loyalty better known as slavery. Dont worry I only use it with women to remove discomforts, like noticing the cold skin. It helps dating if they think you're human. Would you like me to persuade you?" He grinned mischieviously as the welcome sign slowly came into view.

Rebecca found herself slowly nodding when Darien said that humans were also responsible for the death of their own mother in childbirth as well and that vampires weren't the only ones who's mothers were killed when the infant vampire was born. He did have a point. Even though she hated to admit it. Although it didn't happen as often as it used to, women did die on occasion during childbirth with human children.
When Darien began to go over some of the things that he could make her do, Rebecca made a slight face. Could he really make her pick her nose or anything else equally as gross. The thought was unsettling but at the same time it was slightly intriguing. What was it like to have that kind of power over somebody else. Being able to get them to do anything you wanted to do must have made him feel powerful and when he asked if she wanted him to make her do something she tilted her head to the side with a cautious sort of questioning look. Did she really want to give him that kind of power over herself?
"Ummmm that depends. What did you feel like making me do?" Rebecca asked with a hint of a curious tone in her voice but at the same time a bit of uncertainty.

Stepping close to her he leaned in, his lips almost on hers he locked eyes with her. The power of persuasion allowed to wash over her and cloud her mind. Don't move, you're going to enjoy this. Once I step back you'll remember everything that happened and my persuasion will never work on you again unless you want it to. Now kiss me.."
Darien was.cheating somewhat and he knew it, but he was giving her the freedom to resist him after the first and what would be brief kiss. He wondered if he was going to be slapped after this. Not that he could blame her if she did.

As they finally came to a stop by the Welcome to Forks sign, Rebecca wondered what sort of thing Darien would try to get her to do. Would he get her dance around like a fool or would he get her to do cartwheels? Although Rebecca knew that she was hoping for something innocent, giving him power over her could let him get her to do anything, and as he leaned forward she unconsciously took a step back. She heard what Darien said as she began to feel a bit more relaxed, like she had no care in the world. Then suddenly he was giving her his suggestion and she found herself closing the gap between them.
Feeling like she was a spectator in her own mind, Rebecca watched herself as she brought her hand slowly up to brush her fingers lightly over his cheek. The cold, marble like feeling of his skin sent a chill down her spine but she didn't seem able to pull her hand back, no matter what she told herself. Her fingers brushed up over his cheekbone before her palm came to rest lightly on his cheek. Bringing her other hand up, Rebecca placed it lightly on his other cheek and slowly pulled his head down towards hers as she rose up on to her toes to meet his lips.
Internally Rebecca was trying to make herself stop but externally there was no visible sign of her struggle. Her eyes were closed and her lips were pressed lightly against Darien's as they gently moved against his. In the background she heard a car coming up the road but didn't stop what she was doing as she kept her lips pressed lightly against his.

Darien kept the kiss brief, pulling away and smiling, "I shouldn't have taken away my ability to get you to do that again." He winked at her, "Now I have no power over you. Kind of like kissing a frog, only I"m better looking and you get freedom from my own personal temptations instead of a prince." He teased her. Hearing the car for some time he watched it coming their way, "This ought to be interesting." His voice came under his breath as he smelled wolf.
Stepping away enough to give Rebecca a respectful amount of space he pulled out a pen and paper writing down his number, "If you ever get into trouble, or just want to talk feel free to call anytime. My kind doesn't sleep."
