Jake groaned, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to block out the sounds of whatever it was that was chirping outside of his window. He rarely spent any time at home because it was more crucial for him to be at the Cullens house with Renesmee. He didn't exactly trust those Vampires, especially when it came to his beloved imprint. And Bella. Then again, Bella was a Vampire now so apparently he was going to have to learn to trust her as one. He still saw her as his pale skinned little fragile love who was ready to break and or cry at any second. Now she was this hardened even more pale monstrocity and Jake just wasn't digging it. He knew in his heart that one day Edward would be back for her. He knew it, and yet he hoped to god that he was wrong. What do you know? He came back.
Yeah, technically Jake loved Renesmee more than he had ever loved Bella but Bella still held this place in his heart that he was sure noone could fill. Those chocolate brown eyes of Nessie's were just like her mothers, and everytime Jake looked at the little girl he saw Bella. He was going to have to hope that went away when Renesmee actually got older. She was already growing up ridiculously fast. It was weird to watch but Jake was rather happy he didn't have to wait as long for her to be his age so things could get a little more appropriate. Then again, what if she didn't want him that way. Jake didn't really mind. He would be there for her however she wanted him. He just wanted her to be safe. But he was a loving guy. It was hard to make the change from loving someone with all of your heart to having to accept that you might be alone for the rest of your life. There were wolves in the pack that tried to hit on Jake, tried to be part of his life in more ways that just the pack. But he couldnt see any of them that way. He couldn't focus on anything other than keeping Bella and her daughter safe.
Right now he was trying his hardest to focus on sleep. That was all he wanted. A few hours of sleep in his own bed instead of outside on the rough dirt of the forest floor. Was that too much to ask? Apparently since every bird in the damn forest wanted him awake. Granted, it wasn't exactly late but it was the only time Jake had to sleep. He had to get back to the Cullens the second Nessie came back from Charlies. Normally he followed her there but Edward and Bella were going with this time so Jake would feel rather uncomfortable sitting in. Not like that would stop him. It was more like Bella had asked Jake to take some time off for a few hours and let the family have their outing. If that was what they wanted, that was what they were going to get. Anything to make his girls happy. Jake rolled over onto his other side and grumbled to himself, hoping that maybe he could ignore the obnoxious tweets. However, instead another obnoxious noise was added into the mix. His cell phone started to chirp and Jake had the strong urge to throw it against the wall. He resisted and instead pulled it closer to his face, reading the unfamiliar numbers on the screen. It was a weird number, not one he normally knew. Who the hell was this?
"Hello?" Jake asked gruffly, pressing the phone against the side of his head that wasn't flat against the mattress. "Jacob." His sister Rebecca's voice came back to him and Jake suddenly felt more awake. What the heck was she doing calling him from this weird number? He knew her number. Why didn't she have her phone on her? Hundreds of questions ran through Jake's head but he struggled to ask only a few. "Whats going on?" He asked first, trying to sound casual as he strained to listen in on the background. "Why are you calling from an odd number? I know yours." Jake frowned as his sister began to explain. "I'm actually using the phone of a guy named Darien Lau. I was running in the woods when a mountain lion tried to attack me but Darien stopped it. He says we're about a half hour from Forks. Can you pick me up?" Jake fell silent, his body freezing in place as he sat up quickly. A mountain lion? How in the hell could a human stop a mountain lion? And he knew for a fact there was no Darien Lau who was a wolf. He knew all the wolves, even those in Sams pack. There was no Darien. That meant one thing.
"Meet me at the Welcome to Forks sign. If you don't show, then this Darien guy is toast." Jake growled into the phone, pressing the off button before he even gave his sister a chance to respond. Jake jumped out of bed, slipping into some sneakers. He was dressed in jeans and didn't bother grabbing a shirt. He wasn't going to need much clothing if he had to phase. It took Jake mere seconds to get out to the garage and into his car and after a minute or so he was speeding towards Forks. It was a short ride and Jake kept thinking of ways to get his sister back if this guy Darien tried to pull anything. Surely Sam would help. Becca and him had been friends since school. As he drew near the sign he noticed two figures dangerously close together and Jake growled under his breath as he recognized one. The growl grew as he caught the sight of Vampire. He came to an abrupt stop and was out of the car in seconds, stalking towards where his sister stood. "Get in the car." He snarled, his eyes locked on the burgundy hues of the Vampire that stood next to his sister. "Becca. Now."

Seeing Jake's anger Darien took another respectful step back, but put the number in Rebecca's hand. The other man reaked of wolf causing Darien to stop breathing a moment, which didn't help. Darien cleared his throat looking uneasy, "Your sister had a run in with a lion, don't worry she's fine. She was lucky I was in the area. I know how I must look to you, but I assure you which won't I'm sure hold much reassurance for you, but she is safe with me. I don't hunt innocents."
He smiled politely at Rachel, "It was a pleasure to meet you, I just hope it's under better circumstances if we meet again." He returned his gaze to Jake, "Forgive me I didn't introduce myself, "I'm Darien Lau, I just moved in the area with my son and daughter. They're half human..." not sure what else to say to put the wolf at ease he found himself lacking in conversation. His ability didnt work on males, so that was no help to put Jacob at ease. He was left to hope the boy didn't try picking a fight, seeing as his sister was safely where she'd said she'd be he shouldn't. If Darien had wanted her dead or to change her he'd had plenty of time and she wouldn't have had the chance to call Jacob at all in fact.

Although she heard the words that Darien was saying, Rebecca blinked a few times and shook her head as she seemed to return to her own body. He may not have been happy about taking away his ability to make her do what he wanted but she was definitely happy. She didn't like the feeling of not having control of her body and she found herself unconsciously taking a small step back to steady herself as she felt herself getting dizzy for a bit. Without thinking about it, Rebecca extended her hand for the phone number that was being offered to her and the next thing she knew she heard her brother's voice telling her to get in the car.
Looking back over her shoulder, Rebecca saw her brother stalking towards them then repeating his order for her to get in the car. She was about to do it when she felt the paper that Darien had been offering her slip into her hand and her fingers instinctively closed around it. Not really able to find her voice Rebecca merely nodded when he said that he hoped they met under better circumstances but after looking at her brother Rebecca was fairly certain that she wouldn't be seeing or talking to Darien any time soon if her brother had his way.
Even though Rebecca knew that she was the oldest and really didn't have to take orders from her brother, she still headed towards his car. Part of her was saying to stay with him. He was her baby brother and she was supposed to take care of him, but something told her that there was something going on that she hadn't been told of. Oh sure, she'd been told her people's stories but that hadn't meant anything to her growing up. They were just stories. However Rebecca was beginning to realize that they weren't just stories. Darien matched nearly word for word the descriptions that she'd been told about the cold ones in her people's stories.
When she reached Jacob's car, Rebecca pulled open the passenger door but didn't get in. Placing one leg inside the car, Rebecca placed her arms on the top of the door and watched her brother and Darien. She hoped that nothing happened between the two and as she bit the corner of her lip nervously she wondered if she'd even be able to stop Darien if he tried to hurt her brother.

Jake was pissed. What was wrong with his family and friends and their associations with Vampires? You’d think he’d be more understanding since he had loved and had his heart broken by a Vampire. Then again, he loved her when she was human, not when she was a killer. And Bella was a good Vampire. She had golden eyes, she only fed off animals. He did the same didn’t he? Any human who ate steak or bacon did the same thing she did. There was no harm in that. But the ones with the Burgundy eyes could go straight to hell. They were the killers, the ones that had no problem in killing people. They were the ones that Jake had problems with. And here was his sister fraternizing with one. Was she insane? Did she not understand how dangerous the whole situation was? She must have known that the guy didn’t look like a cute and cuddly little teddy bear. And he had to have told her what he was, was she not frightened by that? Then again, once you’re as far as to have the Vampire confess he’s a Vampire its probably not too easy to run away screaming. It was probably better to make nice with them. It made more sense that way.
That didn’t mean Jake wasn’t still pissed. This was his sister, his family. And here she was putting herself in the worst kind of danger there was. Jake stood fiercely, glaring at the Vampire. The stench was more bearable now that he had been around the Cullen’s so often but he could see by the man’s expression that he wasn’t comfortable with Jake’s scent. "Your sister had a run in with a lion, don't worry she's fine. She was lucky I was in the area. I know how I must look to you, but I assure you which won't I'm sure hold much reassurance for you, but she is safe with me. I don't hunt innocents." The man explained. Jake snarled, not uttering a single coherent syllable to the man. He didn’t deserve words. Didn’t hunt innocents? His eyes were burning red, he obviously hunted anything he could get his hands on. Jake trembled dangerously, struggling to keep his composure before the man and his sister. His eyes shifted from the Vampire to Becca, his brown hues burning black with anger. He almost lunged as the man talked to his sister once more, then turned back to address Jake. "Forgive me I didn't introduce myself, I'm Darien Lau. I just moved in the area with my son and daughter. They're half human..." Jake raised an eyebrow. Yeah? And? As if that was helping the guys case at all. HALF human. Not full human. Half. Like Nessie, but they were probably little monsters. Jake looked away, disgusted. His patience was wearing, and he wasn’t in the mood to just stand here offering pleasantries.
Rebecca slowly made her way across the border towards Jake’s car, walking behind him and pulling open the passenger door. Jake stood still, imprinting the Vampires scent and appearance in his mind. He was gonna have to put the pack on alert about this guy. He didn’t want to see him anywhere near his family, or his town for that matter. Turning his back, Jake stalked back to the car and wretched the door open. “Get. In.” He growled at Rebecca, who stood half in and half out of the car. He slammed the door shut with such force he was sure that he caused some kind of damage. He jammed the keys in the ignition and turned the car to life, shifting it into gear before Becca even had her seatbelt on. He threw it into reverse and spun the car dangerously to face back towards La Push. His shifted into drive and sped off down the road, his hands shaking as they gripped the wheel. His teeth clenched painfully to keep him from yelling out in frustration.
