Klara sat at her desk in the small office that she had been given and was looking over the file in front of her. She had to admit that she was a bit surprised when she'd been given this particular case since cases like this normally went to Carlisle or Gabriel but for whatever reason she had been recommended for this case by another physician who worked out of a private practice. The circumstances that the girl found herself in were extremely intriguing to Klara and the fact that nobody knew exactly what had caused the girls blindness had Klara feeling like a kid in a candy shop. It wasn't that she was happy the girl was blind, but the challenge of trying to determine had caused the girl to lose her sight, brought out the competitive edge in the young Russian. Just like in figure skating, she was being given a chance to prove herself to her colleagues and Klara was determined to take it. Although if she was honest with herself she knew she would probably have Gabriel, Carlisle or both join her in examining McKenzie after getting her permission. Klara was still technically an intern and she knew that Gabriel as well as Carlisle had more experience then she and could probably offer insight to things she might not notice.
Looking up as a nurse knocked on the door. Klara smiled at her then closed up the file and got up from her seat. That day she'd decided on a skirt dark gray skirt that stopped just above her knees and a pale blue blouse with black heels. Her white coat over the clothes hid all but her heels and the bottom couple inches of her skirt from view if you were looking at her from behind. Her blonde hair was pulled back off her neck in a french twist with only a few strands of her hair falling down to frame her face.
It didn't take Klara long to reach the room where McKenzie was supposed to be waiting, and after taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, Klara put her hand on the knob and gave it a gentle twist before pushing it in. It didn't take her long to spot the young woman on the examination table and as Klara closed the door behind her she smiled. "Hello McKenzie. I'm Dr. Klara Volkova."

Today is the day, was the thought that ran through McKenzie’s head. A thought, which on some occasions she wished she didn’t have, that had been plaguing her all day. Surely though it wasn’t because she dreaded it, well not entirely anyways, but mainly due to the fact that she was tired of being an enigma. Just once she wanted to go into an appointment get a few tests run, meaning 3 tops, and have someone finally say ‘Ah, this is what’s causing it and this is what we can do or I’m sorry but everything that’s been done is done’. For McKenzie, Kenzie or Fitz to those who knew her well, that would be like music to hear ears; sadly every visit was much the same as the last, at least those not including the one’s her family had uprooted to Europe for. Each doctor had, after rigorous testing (some of which had been painful or just annoying) come back to tell the Fitzpatrick’s that the only thing the tests had provided was an answer to what hadn’t caused the blindness and that the damage done to her brain due to her fall hadn’t helped matters. It was frustrating to hear it because it was all things she already new and could recite verbatim. So simply she had come to the conclusion that her case would always be an enigma and should be labeled as such. Fitz would even go so far to say that she wished her parents would just give up on their hopes, she had and once she finally moved out on her own there would be end to the nonsense…once and for all.
“Can I help you miss?” Fitz snapped her head up in the direction of the woman’s voice as she was pulled from her thoughts. The woman had surprised her which normally was something that was rather hard to do. Apparently she’d been immersed in her thoughts and had let the sound of the nearing foot falls and heartbeat slip passed her. “No I’m fine thank you…” Offering up a quick smile she breezed past the woman and made her way inside tapping her cane lightly in front of her…what she wouldn’t give for some real noise than she could ‘see’ thanks to the after affects of the sounds. Oh well beggars can’t be choosers right? She smirked to herself and made her way to the area she knew the front desk to be located in.
A moment or so later she reached it and easily picked up on the sound of about 4 separate heartbeats and a couple familiar smells. Fitz smiled to herself for a moment, familiarity was nice. “Excuse me…Alicia, I believe it was right?” Her voice was soft and had a slightly accented from the years spent in Europe. “McKenzie, yes you got it right…what can I help you with?” The woman’s voice was kind, it had been what she’d liked about it when she had been here last because it was the genuine kind, not the fake. “I have the required papers and information that needed to be filled out for my appointment with Dr. Volkova.” Fitz than heard the sound of footfalls coming in her direction, moments later followed by the much more audible sound of Alicia’s heartbeat. “Thank you McKenzie. Alright well lets head back to the examination room…” Alicia walked infront of her, remembering from their last meeting that Fitz as fully capable to lead herself. “Roses, sweet musk, and vanilla right?” A smiled tugged at the corner of Fitz’s mouth as the pair made their way to the room. “Yes, how did you pick up on the specific scents?” Fitz stopped as Alicia did and her smile grew. “When you don’t have eyes to see like everyone else you’re other senses tend to be a bit more sensitive to say the least.” She heard Alicia laugh a bit as she opened the door, Fitz entered and took a seat on the table.
Some seconds passed as Alicia did the usual tasks all nurses do for the doctor’s “Alright hun, Dr. Volkova will be in a moment or so you shouldn’t have to wait to long.” Fitz laughed lightly. Not having to wait long in a Doctor’s office, right. “If you say so, maybe I’ll be lucky.” Again she heard laugher followed by the door opening and closing. Sighing than Fitz adjusted her sunglasses slightly as she set her purse down beside her and rested her walking can behind her seeing as she had no use for it at the moment. Just as she finished situating herself she heard the sound of knocking and the door opening again.
"Hello McKenzie. I'm Dr. Klara Volkova."
Easily she picked up on the sound of the woman’s heartbeat, it was a little faced, almost like excitement but not exactly. She also noted this woman smelled nice and she sounded young. She smiled at this, youth meant open mindedness and an updated knowledge on testing or what have you. “Hello Dr. Volkova…so I hope you’re up for the job of dealing with a seeming enigma.” She smiled kindly holding her hand out in the general direction of the doctor.

"Well it would appear we both have different ideas of what to call your condition and both apply. I don't see your condition as an enigma but more of a challenge that I'm determined to meet." Klara said with a soft laugh as she took McKenzie's hand and gave it a light shake before she took a seat on a nearby stool and flipped open the file that she had in front of her. Of course there was more to this particular file stashed in a file cabinet in her office because of all the testing that McKenzie had gone through over her life. This file had all the basic information filled out but was a fresh one and in Klara's opinion it was a fresh start for the young woman in front of her. Of course Klara wouldn't try anything that had already failed for the girl so she wasn't going to ignore the information she already had at hand.
"Now before we begin I do have to let you know that I am still technically an intern at this hospital so I would like to have your permission to share information on your case with the doctor that I work under, Dr. Gabriel LaFenir. I would also like to share the information with Dr. Carlisle Cullen with your permission. Dr. Cullen is one of the leading men in our profession and I want to be able to give you the best diagnosis that I can." Klara said as she smiled at McKenzie and hoped that the girl wouldn't think she was incompetent for wanting to bring in two other doctors to this case. Klara would of course be the leading doctor on this case but since she was still new to the medical field she wanted the opinions of the two doctor's that she trusted completely.
