Quiet. But not the awkward kind that seemed to be filling up her time. The good quiet that was there because you wanted to be quiet and words would only ruin the moment. She looked around this place that could temporarily fill the void in her heart. If she could, she would live here forever but she could not and that made her slight unhappy. The Library. She could escape in the books and hide away from her evil thoughts and the people that brought them to her mind. The books took her to magical lands where people could not go and make her feel uncomfortable. Books were her safety zone. Her eyes were open wide and taken in the rows and rows of books. So far this was the only place in this strange town that seemed vacantly familiar. She took in a deep breath through her nose. The air was filled with the smell of old books and crumpled paper. She felt her worries slip away from her as she let out a sigh of relief through her mouth. She could not wait to snuggle close to a book.
She walked through the rows, touching every bind of the books in the middle row. She knew her finger would have a gray mark on it when she was done. But that was fine because to her books were like wine, they got better with age. She glared at the people who decided to spend there time like she had in a place filled with books. She watched them engage themselves with words and mysteries. She could have smiled but nothing appeared on her face. Her soon began to wonder back to the mysterious boy she had met yesterday. Shade could feel a frown coming upon her face. After school she jumped into the car and sat in silence with her father. He asked her what was wrong but she just stared out of the window thinking of that boy. She did not understand how he could be the focus of all her thoughts. When she thought of him everything else disappeared and she did not like this. She hated it and she hated him. Or at least she wanted to hate him.
She found a seat and a book. She opened it and began to read. Hoping her thoughts would leave.

Sebastian was walking through the town by accident, and only came to the library out of boredom. Many books of today were not worth reading but this place was stocked with a wide variety of older books. He walked in and nodded to the lady up front, moving slowly through the many rows of books. He found a few older authors, mostly Asimov and Wells. He loved the old sci-fi books, stories of what the future would hold. HE would often laugh because he knew he would live to see the future and find out if the authors were right.
HE sighed and began to walk toward a table, and then he saw her. The one girl who wasn’t out of his thoughts for more than a few seconds, Shade. He almost turned and left but he couldn’t make himself do it. He walked toward her and looked over her shoulder, seeing Asimov in her hand, he smiled. They were more alike than he knew, and he couldn’t stop himself. “Hello Shade, nice to see you again.” He whispered in her ear. He looked at the book and saw the title, “Asimov, nice. ‘Life is pleasant, Death is peaceful, it is the transition that’s troublesome.’” He quoted to her. He leaned over the chair to look down at her, placing himself dangerously close to her, his arm brushing against her back.

Reading. Reading is fundamental. Shade was an avid reader. With all that spare thinking time on her hands she had to find some way of diverting her thoughts. Reading was her high. Some people drank to forget the pain and others smoked or sniffed drugs but Shade she read. She read to escape and it always worked. When she came back to reality it sucked but she could deal because her safe world was only one line away and she always kept a book in her bag. Shade allowed herself to leave her world ever few minutes as she stole glances around her. She could not help herself she loved to observe others. But people in this town were doing what they usually did, paying no attention to anyone else but themselves. If the world suddenly came to an end she wondered if they would even notice. Probably not she came to the conclusion.
Once she turned back to the book her mind began to race with thoughts of Sebastian. She could picture his face and almost feel the way his hands felt between hers. She shook her head hoping that it would erase the thought from her head but it did not work. She kept picturing his face and his smile. She could not bring herself to stay mad at him for making her feel so terrible yesterday but she was trying super hard. Her images became so clear that she swore she heard his voice. She opened her eyes. His voice was so clear and velvety that she could have sworn he was right there next to her. She held her breath. She was going crazy. The voice kept talking; she knew it was no longer a dream. She knew he had to be there. She turned her head and he was right behind her, looking more handsome then ever.
She turned back to her book. Her hands trembled. What was wrong with her? She should get up. She should leave, she should storm out of the library and never look back and yet all she wanted to do was talk to him. Her mouth got dry and she felt her teeth dig deep into her lips. This was becoming a bad habit and if she kept it up she would have ruined bleeding lips. She glared at her book clutching it tighter and tighter. She wanted to throw up all the emotions flowing through her. She closes her eyes and took three silent deep breaths. She did not want him to see how he made her feel. She wanted to seem cool calm and collected. She would have to beat her nerves. Once he book was steady in her hands she said
“Sit, If you want?”

Sebastian smiled and looked at her hands as she seemed to visibly be trying to calm down. He moved before thinking about it and put his hands on hers, “Shade, don’t rip the book, it won’t help anything.” He told her and took her hands from the book, placing them down and leaving them there as he went around the table and sat down. “It is good to see you again mon cheri,” he said, his accent piercing his words smoothly and liquidy. He smiled at her and tried to sort his thoughts out, thinking of so many things at once. He was doing it again, being close to her, putting her in danger.
“Did you uhh….think of me at all?” He didn’t know why he asked this one question, out of all the questions he had he chose that one. He watched her face for some reaction, and she seemed to still be gathering herself. If only she could see in his mind, see how he was trying to do the same, see how his mind kept racing. But that thought scared him, because then she would see his darker side, the side that wanted her blood. He couldn’t let her learn about that side, it was too dangerous. On the outside though he composed his face and put on a charming smile, he was determined to be as human as possible around her.
In truth if he admitted it to himself he was just desperate to be around her. It almost disgusted him how weak he was around her, how he did what he wanted and not what was humane and sensible. No, he did what was selfish and wrong and masochistic to them both. He stayed at the table, smiled at her, his hand on the book in front of him.

Shade took five deep breaths. In through the nose and out through the mouth. Shade did not care if Sebastian heard her. She needed to calm herself down. An anxiety attack was the last hting she wanted to have in a library crowded with people. She did not want to panic in front of him either. 'Never let them see you sweat.' Her mom had told her once when she was goign through something at school in new york. Her throat clogged up all of sudden and Shade thought the room began to spin. She took more deep breaths and pushed the thoughts of her mother to the back of her mind. He touched her and took the book out of her hands. She felt a tingly feeling run down her spine once their hands met. She wiggled in her seat. HEr eyes did not stop glaring at he table as his hands disappeard and shade did not feel his presence behind her.
When she saw a body sitting infront of her, she decided she was ready to look up. She looked at him. HEr eyes trying to observe every inch of this person that was infront of her. She wanted to bite down on her lip and take another deep breath but she stopped herself. She just looked at him hoping to read his body language but she was having trouble. His lips moved and at frist Shad could not hear a sound. She was blocking out that voice that she loved. The voice soon broke through the barrier and she heard it. Falling in love all over again with that voice. She listened to what the voice had to say while her eyes watched he lips that held the voice move.
She wanted to smile but her face stayed straight foreward. Her teeth itched to bite down on her lip when he asked if she thought of him. Her mind raced with all different kinds of answers she could give him but she sat there still. He stuttered on the words. She wondered why. Was he thinking of her. No way. He could not be thinking about her the way he kept disappearing on her and making her feel like crap. She looked at his eyes for a second and then her eyes gazed at his hands that were on the book. She took one deep breath and decided to give him an answer.
"Maybe, A Little."
Her shoulders shrug as she gave him the answer. Her face tarted to turn bright red.
"I just been wondering..."
She did not finish her sentence. She just allowed her thumbs to play a thumb war. She her feet shuffled under the table. Her eyes focused on her fidgety hands.

Sebastian was analyzing every move she made, every single fidget and sigh. She was calming down but getting nervous, that he could see. And the fidgeting, he had seen it before.
It was all a classic sign of her liking him, he nearly killed himself. If his heart still beat he would have had a heart attack. In his mind he was beating himself for having kept interacting with her, placing himself so close to her. But he had too, he had to keep close to her or he would not be able to function right.
He kept his eyes locked on hers, trying to read every movement, every little change in her facial appearance he noted to himself. His mind was working on so many levels that he was thinking of so many things at once he barely noticed the small part of his mind that was rejoicing to learn that she liked him.
He purposely kept in the seat and didn’t smile at that small but oh so significant bit of news. He hated that he kept leaving her alone, more confused, because he knew he did. Then his mind jumped to a more certain conclusion of her liking him. She said she missed him, well a little.
“What have you been wondering my lo…” He cut himself off before he finished. “What have you been wondering Shade?”

Shade wanted to slap herself. Did she really just say what she thought she just said. Her heart pounded faster and her hands shaked a little bit harder. Her mind was racing with so many thoughts that she could barely listen to the words that were coming out of his mouth she heard pieces of them. Her eyes tried to watch his lips as they moved but she couldnot focus. She took slower breaths becuase having a panic attack in the library was not the best thing that she could do at the moment. She wanted to be strong. She did not want him to think that she could not handle rejection and she did not want to him to try and save her while she gasped for air during her panic attack. She used her hands to push herself back away from the table. Her chair made a slight squeaky noise and she was sure that some people turned their heads to stare at their table. She had no time to turn around and make a apologetic face. She threw her head between her knees and took deeper breaths. She hoped this would calm down her mind to. She did not understand why she was freaking out for. She never felt this way about anyone before.
She started to feel herself coming back. Her mind slowed down and her body stopped shaking. She came up from under the table but did not push her chair in closer. She needed the distance between them. She believed that the last thing he said to her was what she had been wondering but she did not feel like answering that question. She wouldnot continue to blab about the one way street of emotions that was goign on at this table. She looked at him for a mere second and then looked down at her dangling feet. She bite her lip andthen let go. She did this a billion times before she felt ready to say anything to him. She would not get up and leave for she felt it was rude and she did not want to go back to that house. She would rather bare this a gazillion times more then return to a place she had to call home. Shade turned her head up once more trying now to see how long she could hold eye contact.
"Come here often?"
She said to him. Because if he did she would have to stop. No more running into him. It was starting to cause her drama.

Sebastian smiled at her, "Not really, i have read most of the books in here. It holds little interest for me." He smiled again and read her face, she seemed, nervous is what he wanted to call it but it wasnt quite right. "And yourself?" He asked, his voice smooth and calm, betraying none of what he flet or thought.
IN turth his mind was in full speed and beyond, trying to figure out why he , for her sake and his own, could not get up and leave this poor girl, this human alone. She was so fragile and cute, but he could not force himself to walk away and make her safe. He wanted to see her and found himself thinking of her at randome points.
