Character History:
Wesley and Catherine.
Born in 1584 to a wealthy, noble English family, Wesley Polanco grew up knowing nothing but a life of luxury. He got everything he wanted, when he wanted it, no questions asked. Wesley was not an only child. But being the first born and a male, favorites were certainly played in the Polanco household. Wesley constantly came out on top against ten younger brothers and sisters. He was the Polanco family jewel, the one who would inherit the Polanco Manor and hundreds of acres of land. Wesley received all the attention – he needed to be properly educated for when the time came where he would run the Polanco estate. Because of this sort of upbringing, Wesley cultivated a rather pompous attitude. Wesley was in his mid to late twenties by the time his siblings started to actually voice their complaints. They tried to reason with their parents, saying that they gave as much to the family as Wesley had and deserved some type of reward. The Polanco elders turned a deaf ear, believing their eldest son was far more successful and capable of managing their estate. When that didn’t work, they turned to reasoning with Wesley. If Wesley told their parents that his younger brothers deserved a cut, then they’d agree. However, Wesley, too, refused to listen to his brothers. He was so caught up in his popularity and the fortune promised in his future to want to give that up. The younger brothers were obviously bitter, but dropped the subject. For now.
Wesley didn’t hear anything from his brothers about their parents’ fortunes for years, not until he was thirty years old. By that point, Wesley’s mother had already died, and his father was on his deathbed. Wesley’s younger brothers knew that if they didn’t act quickly, they would lose all chances of getting an inheritance. It was a cold September night when they stole Wesley from his bed, tied him up and drug him out to the woods. They beat him brutally and left him there to die. They would later mourn the ‘disappearance’ of their eldest brother. For days it seemed Wesley lay motionless in the woods, unable to move due to various broken bones. He knew he was dying, and all he could feel was a deep hatred towards his brothers. After about three days, Wesley was found by a rather odd man. His eyes were a deep burgundy, almost black. His skin was pale, except for the bruising beneath them. Wesley was beyond frightened, but the man promised to put Wesley out of his misery. He didn’t exactly know how the man would do so, but Wesley agreed. Next thing Wesley knew, the man’s teeth were sinking into Wesley’s neck and his entire body felt like he was burning. Wesley could only think about the pain, and the anger he felt towards this man and his family.
Three days later, Wesley woke as a new creature. He noticed his senses were more alert, his heart had stopped beating, and he was hungry. Out of instinct, Wesley went hunting for the very first time as a vampire. Where did he go? Wesley’s very first victims were the younger brothers who had sentenced him to this hell. He was satisfied with the taste of their blood and the piercing of their screams. Wesley didn’t stop to think about the consequences once. When the slaughter was over and Wesley evacuated to the woods, he couldn’t help but feel remorse for the murders of his brothers. While Wesley had been greedy with his money, those men were his flesh and blood. How could Wesley murder his own brothers? He was disgusted with himself, and from that point on, dedicated himself to a strict vegetarian diet. The first chance Wesley got, he left England and immigrated to the New World. On the ship, Wesley met a woman by the name of Catherine and the two quickly fell in love. While travelling across the ocean, Catherine became ill and was expected to die just days after arriving in America. Wesley told Catherine that if she agreed to marry him, he could save her, but wouldn’t tell her how. She agreed, putting full trust in Wesley. Upon arriving in America, Wesley wasted no time in turning Catherine into a vampire. He was pleased at how quickly she changed and how easy it was for her. Within weeks, Catherine and Wesley were married and part of town life.
Just a few years later, Wesley and Catherine met a young man by the name of Tristan Avery. The men hit it off beautifully, becoming friends rather quickly. Catherine and Wesley were incredibly fond of Tristan, so when Tristan was inches away from death due to tuberculosis, Wesley could think of no other option but to turn Tristan into a vampire as well. While Wesley didn’t regret this decision, he was rather displeased with how difficult it had been for Tristan to accept a vegetarian diet. Wesley kept on it, though, and eventually, Tristan went with it. Catherine and Wesley always knew that Tristan was unhappy not hunting humans, but they appreciated his loyalty. When Tristan returned home from a hunt with a new vampire, Wesley and Catherine accepted the girl with open arms after realizing that Tristan hadn’t killed her. After all, it was the least they could do what with Tristan putting in so much effort to stay golden eyed. For thirty years, Wesley and Catherine and Tristan and Lunette lived in peace, nearly. There was always that tension between dietary ideas, and soon, they began to clash. The two couples went head-to-head, passions flaring up until the point where Lunette decided she wanted a go at Catherine. Wesley stepped in to protect his wife, as did Tristan. The two men fought and ultimately the small coven split, going out of their way to make sure they stayed that way.
Human.
Adam and Dorothy Habel were working-class citizens of England in the late eighteen hundreds. They were a rather humble family with a stable flow of money, though Adam did have to work rather hard to keep food on the table for his young family. Dorothy had given birth to a son, Paul Robert, not long after they were married, and she was currently pregnant with another. The year passed into 1900 by the time Dorothy finally gave birth to a little girl, whom they named Sophia Mae. Sophia was a quiet, observant girl. She followed her mother around everywhere she went, picking up on all the household chores that women of the time were expected to learn. Naturally intelligent, Sophia quickly learned how to cook, clean, sew, and even to read and write. Sophia was a breath of fresh air to Adam and Dorothy, who had a hard time with Sophia’s older brother. Despite how different Sophia and Paul were, they got along rather well. Sophia seemed to calm Paul down. He saw how pleased Dorothy and Adam were when it came to his little sister, and soon Paul began to mimic this behavior. Within the first seven years of Sophia’s life, she managed to change Paul’s careless attitude around and he became very protective of his little sister.
As the years past and the Habel family grew older, they began to outgrow their little home and farm. Jobs in the city were difficult to find and the worth of produce began to slip. Unable to find another way to make money, the Habel family decided it was their time to move to America. Sophia was thirteen years old when her family entered America through Ellis Island in New York City. Surprisingly enough, the Habel family settled down well in America. They lived in New York City, where Adam quickly found work at the J.P. Morgan Inc. bank. It was one of the lowest ranking jobs in the business, but nonetheless, brought in enough money to care for his family. Dorothy continued to home school her children. Sophia had a rather hard time adapting to life in America. She was so used to the quiet countryside that the city often became too loud and stuffy to Sophia. The girl didn’t branch out much, not unless Dorothy set up play dates with the daughters of the friends she had made within the neighborhood. Nonetheless, Sophia created friendships with a few girls she felt comfortable around. She shied away from boys, however, as many found her attractive due to the rare nature of her red hair and porcelain complexion. Sophia had never been one for the limelight.
Just four years later, the United States entered World War I. Not knowing what else to do with his life, Paul decided to enlist in the military. The Habel family took this decision hard, but none of them like Sophia. Paul had been one of the only people Sophia had honestly trusted. Thus the reason it hit Sophia hard when Paul had been among some of the first casualties to lose his life in the war. At seventeen years old, Sophia became even more withdrawn than normal. This frightened Dorothy and Adam slightly, as they were prepared to marry their daughter off soon and she wasn’t making any effort to meet a husband. Adam and Dorothy decided to take the matter into their own hands. For one, they couldn’t bear the thought of their daughter unmarried when she was so equipped to be a wife. And two, Sophia had become extremely unhappy without Paul. Adam introduced Sophia to a man named Charles Cavangh, who was the twenty-year-old son of a man Adam worked with at the bank. Surprisingly enough, Sophia fell in love with Charles. He was an honest, trustworthy, hardworking, and kindhearted man; the perfect husband for young Sophia. Charles helped Sophia get back on her feet, and within the next year, she became Sophia Cavangh.
When Sophia turned nineteen, she gave birth to a beautiful little girl. They named her Ellen Lucille in honor of Sophia’s mother. Charles and Sophia’s parents were exceedingly pleased with how Sophia had come out her depression. Sophia was madly in love with Ellen. She took the baby everywhere with her, hardly letting Ellen out of sight. It was so easy to see that Sophia had been made to be a mother. She sang and read to Ellen every night. She took Ellen on frequent strolls around the neighborhood. She only fed Ellen the best quality food and dressed her in quality clothing. Sophia had never loved anything more than that baby. There was only one day Sophia left the baby with her parents; September 16, 1920. Dorothy and Adam had agreed to watch Ellen while Sophia went to visit Charles at work in the bank; Adam had off on that particular day. The young twenty-year-old girl was strolling amongst the lunchtime crowd on Wall Street, intending to bring her husband lunch as a surprise. This didn’t exactly go as planned. At noon, dynamite exploded on the Financial District’s busiest corner and Sophia got caught in the crossfire. She could feel her last breaths coming and all Sophia could think about was that beautiful baby girl sitting at home. The last thing Sophia could remember before death became her was being swept up by a beautiful stranger, wind whipping her hair about, that wind suddenly stopping as she was rested on a bed, the feeling of fangs sinking into her neck, and an excruciating burning feeling.
Vampire.
When Sophia finally awoke, she felt extreme relief that the burning feeling was over. Her next thought went directly to Ellen. She had to get back to Ellen. She had to make sure Ellen was okay. Sophia sat directly up, her eyes snapping open, only to find she was in unfamiliar territory. It was then that Sophia met Catherine and Wesley. Before Sophia could completely panic, Catherine explained to the young girl what had happened and what she had become. If Sophia could have cried, she would have broken down right then and there. She had lost her entire family in the blink of an eye. She lost her parents and husband and, worst of all, her baby. From the very start of her new life as a vampire, Sophia was incredibly reluctant to do much of anything. No matter what Catherine and Wesley tried to do, Sophia wouldn’t leave the room she had woken up in. They dared not try to force Sophia, as she was an incredibly strong newborn at the time and they weren’t sure of her temper. For days Sophia remained like this, fighting the burning thirst in her throat.
Soon Sophia had to give in. By the time she was ready to accept that she honestly was a vampire, it had been two weeks after the transformation. Catherine alone took Sophia out hunting – animals of course, as the Polanco clan stuck to a strict vegetarian diet. The fact that she would be hunting animals instead of people was a lot easier for Sophia to grasp onto. Slowly, Sophia was integrated into the coven. The Polanco coven already had three younger vampires, whom Wesley and Catherine had already claimed lovingly as their children – Caleb, Austin, and Molly. The Polanco’s lived out of New York City for a while, obviously keeping Sophia on the down low as she was supposed to have been killed in the bombing. The main reason behind this was due to the fact that Sophia couldn’t bare the idea of leaving her human family behind. Sophia kept tabs on the family, watching with a bittersweet heart as Charles raised Ellen on his own and her parents began to grow old. Eventually, though, Wesley and Catherine knew they needed to move on. Their appearance no longer matched well with the age they claimed and they had to protect their coven. Sophia agreed to continue on with the family.
Despite the fact that the Polanco coven moved from state to state every couple of years and they gradually moved further away from New York, Sophia continued to visit the city to check up on her human family. It hurt Sophia that she couldn’t be there for Ellen, but was always assured that Charles took excellent care of the little girl. She watched as each of her parents passed away, as her daughter married and started her own family, and her husband died. With each death Sophia experienced, she seemed to draw more and more inward. Wesley and Catherine hurt to know that their adoptive daughter felt such pain. They attempted to make Sophia fall in love with Austin, who they knew had an attraction to the girl. But Sophia continued to turn a blind eye to Austin’s advances. She couldn’t bring herself to love another man other than the one who had fathered her baby. Austin backed off, but his feelings for Sophia are still obvious, and Catherine and Wesley are still rooting for their relationship. Sophia keeps to herself now, which is a hell of a lot easier living in a place like Forks. Or so she thought.
Character Appearance: Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: [+] Family-oriented [+] Level-headed [+] Intelligent [+] Classy [+] Reading
Weakness: [-] Wallflower [-] Cautious [-] Over-analytical [-] Descendents [-] Dependent on family
Personality: It takes a lot for one to actually get to know Sophia. She’s not very open to conversation and won’t go out of her way to start it. It isn’t as though Sophia is unfriendly, actually quite the opposite, but she’s naturally very soft-spoken. She doesn’t really speak unless she has something important to say or is directly spoken to. The worst possible scenario to place Sophia in would be one of attention. Sophia is a wallflower in every way possible. She’s very much an observer and cannot function well whilst in the limelight. More often than not, Sophia can be found with her face in a book. She reads more than anything. Whenever Sophia is missing, the first place to find her would be in a bookstore. Sophia has her own personal library, which could give a Harvard library a run for its money, and it expands daily. Sophia is the epitome of a bookworm. She’s a nerd at heart that loves to learn with a phenomenal amount of natural intelligence.
Even though Sophia enjoys spending more time alone than with people, she would never pass up a chance to be with her family. Nothing is more important to Sophia than family. She is incredibly loyal to them and would do anything for those she loves – even risk her own life. There are times when Sophia seems desperate when it comes to her family. Having a family unit to fall back on has always been a huge part of Sophia, and over time, she has become rather dependent upon her family. Sophia sees herself as unable to function without the Polanco coven behind her. The attachment to her vampire family is most likely a direct result to losing her blood family. Despite Sophia’s nearly desperate need for family attachment, she can definitely take care of herself. Sophia can stand on her own two feet. She is very level-headed with traditional morals that she cannot be easily swayed from. She carries herself with grace and poise; she has a natural classiness and confidence within her. Sophia makes sure people know that she can’t be walked all over despite her wallflower nature.
