risk the broken bonesjust to call this place home
Graduation, that was something neither Jeremiah nor his mother ever thought would be a possibility. When he was much younger, he always fear his dad would beat him to death or to the point where he was an invalid that would have to be carried from one place to the next, or rolled around in a wheel chair. He was even willing to bet that he would just be bed bound for the rest of his life. He never thought he would make it to ten let alone eighteen. His mother felt the same way, sort of. She never said it, but she always worried that her ex-husband would find her and Jeremiah, and kill either her son or both of them. He knew it. For the longest time, Jeremiah could see it in her eyes. There was something there that said she was just happy to have one more day with him. It was still there. In reality, he was lucky to be where he was. There had been so many people that had been abused or beaten. There were many people who had had their abusive parents search for them all to start the evil cycle of abuse over again. There had been plenty of parents that were afraid to leave their spouse for fear that they too would be hurt. Jeremiah and his mother were both very strong people. They had come out of the whole situation better people and were alive. The only problem was that they strongly relied on each other. Jeremiah had no clue what he or his mother would do when he graduated and moved out, and he fully intended on at least moving into the dorms at Seattle University. But what would they do when they separated? Jeremiah wasn’t afraid to admit it. It would be hard for both of them to deal with. He wasn’t quite sure how he was going to handle moving out and not having his mom there when he needed someone.
Currently, Jeremiah stood in his room staring at himself in the suit his mother had bought him to wear to this graduation dinner his family had planned for the weekend. He was probably the only boy in the world that didn’t mind his mom coming shopping with him, but that was mostly because she knew how things were supposed to fit him, where he had no clue. She had an eye for seeing if things were tailored right to his body. Jeremiah kind of needed that help. ”It’s perfect!” his mother said tearfully just as she wrapped her arms around her son’s body. She was just tall enough that he could rest his chin on the top of her head. ”You’re growing up so fast.” He could tell the water works were coming. ”Mom!” he complained, ”You’re going to get your makeup all over this if you cry. And we can’t afford to buy two shirts.” She pulled away and wiped her eyes dry. ”I’m sorry, but you’re my only child and you’re graduating. I’m allowed to be this way.” She looked over at her quickly. ”I won’t graduate until next week mother.” Damn! It was coming too fast for him. He really didn’t know if he was going to be able to handle the distance from her. He was a complete momma’s boy that couldn’t function in the morning if he woke up and she hadn’t made him breakfast. How the hell was he supposed to survive a thing like college without her? She was his backbone and the one thing he knew he could turn to without any question. She had seen him through everything, constant moving, being picked on by kids, getting him into photography classes when they couldn’t afford it, and even him getting a girl pregnant. She was the only person he knew he could trust with everything.
”Well, I’m your mother. This is what I’m supposed to do,” she smiled and then looked at her watch, ”Don’t you have somewhere to be in a bit? Change out of that and we’ll buy it.” Jeremiah nodded, mostly because she was right. He had plans. But they weren’t very big plans. Mother’s Day was coming up and he needed to do some shopping while he was at the mall. So, without any sort of fight, he made his way into the dressing room and changed his clothes. She bought them, told him to not get into trouble, and sent Jeremiah on his way. Without his camera, he was sort of shy. He had run into a lot of girls that had given him winks. He wasn’t stupid. He knew girls found him attractive, but he had no clue how to respond to something like that. He wasn’t sure how to respond to girls at all. The one time he did, the girl ended up in labor nine months later. So, he ignored them and continued to look for something perfect for his mother. She did a lot for him, and he really owed her for it all. The least he could do was buy her something himself for once. He would be proud of this moment. But, standing in front of a rack of clothes, he had no clue what his mother would like. He usually walked around different places think his mother would like this or that if they could afford the extra expense. When it came to actually buying something, he went completely blank. Jeremiah just kind of ended up standing there, staring at everything and trying to rack his brain on what would be perfect to get for a gift. Damnit! He wished he could get help, now.

Poppy was so excited! She was finally back in Forks, and it felt great! Well, she was back in La Push, and as soon as she was back, BAM! She was hit with the disease, well, that’s what she called it anyways. She didn’t like it because she had been stupid and joined a pack. Sam’s pack, she vaguely remembered him, but apparently he was important to the tribe, so she followed him. She would have gone with Jacob, but she was more into a leader, not someone who was just there. It was annoying to have no organization in a group, and that’s sort of how Jacob’s pack was. He probably didn’t even know he had that many wolves in his pack. How sad is? Don’t know who is in your pack, don’t even acknowledge them or nothing. Poppy’s happy face fell briefly, but she was back to normal within minutes. She was happy that her parents were so accepting of William because she really liked him and would be super sad if they didn’t. Poppy respected her parents a lot, and if they said threw ‘em out, then she would. It sounded really stupid to some people, but to Poppy that’s how it’s done. Of course William had asked her to marry him, she was a little young but her parents respected her. They told her that she knew what was best for her, and if marrying William was what she wanted, well, then that’s what would happen. They were getting married in a few months. She preferred an autumn wedding, but her parents wanted her to have a summer wedding, so she agreed. What had shocked William was to find out that Poppy hadn’t been joking when she said that both of her parents were gay. Her mom, Kayla, was married to Ciara. Her father, Daniel, was married to Kavine. They were fabulous parents, and Poppy didn’t want any different then them.
People find it odd that she has two pairs of gay parents, but Kayla had explained it to Poppy when she was fourteen. Poppy was a strong believer in gay rights, and she fought hard within the Human Rights Campaign. She was getting there, plus she had William’s father to help her in the political area. After tragic dance accident, Poppy took up Politics. She excelled in it when she was in her Senior year of high school. She’d even been on the debate team and had been team captain. No one wanted to be up against her. In college, Poppy had met William through a friend. They had hit off really well, and well, she was shocked that he had proposed only five months after dating. He had put it to her plain and simple: they were meant for each other. Poppy was eager to say yes, but she had other things to think about. What would her family think? Her friends? She’d said yes though. She really did like William, and did hope it worked out between them. She was pretty sure it would though. Poppy smiled to herself as she laid in her old bed. She’d told William a few days ago that she would like to live in La Push. He was hesitant at first because of a small town and he wasn’t use to that kind of thing, but she quickly convinced him. Poppy loved small towns, they were so peaceful. Poppy got up, and walked down to the shower. Poppy turned on the water, and sat there for about an hour before Ciara was banging on the door for her to hurry up and get out because other people lived here too. Poppy giggled, and hopped out. She dried her hair then straightened it. She put on some eyeliner, then went to her room and picked out her outfit. It was a simple one, she liked simple.
Once she was done, she grabbed her bag and keys and headed for the mall. It was Mother’s Day soon, and she wanted to get her mothers something. She didn’t have a lot of money, but it was the thought that counted, right? She window shopped for a while, then she found the perfect outfit for Ciara, she would love it because it was purple. Shopping for Kayla was more difficult though. She walked into another clothing store, and saw a familiar face looking at a section with a blank stare. He made her heart do a 360, and she smiled so wide. It was Jeremiah! Poppy could barely contain her excitement as she saw him. She ran over to him, and wrapped her petite, and warm body around him. Her heart thumped a little faster when she looked at him. He was so adorable. ”Jeremiah! “ Poppy squeaked out. She raised a curious brow then said, ”Staring at it won’t make it move/ What are you doing anyways?”
[/color] She was being curious like usual. She titled her head to the right, and kept smiling. She’d never smiled this much around him before. Must have been the time away from him. risk the broken bonesjust to call this place home
This place and Jeremiah never got along. He hadn’t been here for more than two years and still things just kept happening to him to make his life difficult. He wouldn’t say he was miserable. It wasn’t as though he wasn’t happy. Yes, things could be better, but he wasn’t depressed. Depression wasn’t his thing. It felt so…what did people call it? Emo? Yeah, that was it. He wasn’t emo. Ok, he may have looked like it. He had the haircut. He wore the clothes, but he was pretty positive he was not what they considered to be emo. He was just himself. This was the person he was. Through experiences he had faced in his life, Jeremiah just grew into this person. Unfortunately, the only person to have accepted it was his mother. That was ok with him, though, when he really thought about it. No one was important to him the way she was. She was his hero. That was actually one hundred percent the truth. She had saved him from a life of being abused and beaten. Had his mother not had the strength to walk away, Jeremiah would probably be dead by this point. It was quite unfortunate that it had landed him in so many different places, though. He didn’t like always moving. He was actually surprised his mother hadn’t decided to pick up and move after he graduated high school, but I think she finally realized they were safe. In Forks they were safe and his father wouldn’t be able to find him. Actually, he wasn’t sure if that was the case at all. Maybe it was just that she found a place she was happy and that Jeremiah was relatively happy being in. She had things to do here and made friends that didn’t tell her that she was lucky to be alive but rather joked around and decided to form an army should Bethany’s estranged husband find his way into town. Their motto was no one would get to her or Jeremiah as long as they were standing in the line of fire.
That was why Jeremiah owed it to his mother to get her something special. He owed her that much. This was the one person who listened to every problem, supported him through his biggest mistake, always told him everything he did was great no matter how horrible it really was, and would always be an important part of his life. And he for so long couldn’t show her the same sentiments back. He withdrew himself from the world. He punished himself for getting Norah pregnant by stopping his photography all together until his mom forced him into it. Now, Jeremiah had the opportunity to pay her back. Plus, he felt bad. He didn’t know what he was going to do at this point when it came to college. He knew he was going and that it would be close, but he didn’t know how much longer he would be in his home. He anticipated being there for a while, but he could never say for certain. The only problem was, though he loved his mom, he didn’t understand what girls liked. The only thing he knew they liked were flowers and boys not hyperventilating after having sex with them and running away. That was his limit with girls and understanding their brains. In many ways he didn’t want to understand them because not all of them were alike. He liked discovering new things about people. But his mother? Really? Shouldn’t he know all this stuff about her already? He was her son, the person that saw her almost every day of her life if not every single day. This was far more complicated than he had anticipated. Maybe he should just bring home some flowers and get a bunch of chick flicks and watch them with her. Then it would seem like he was going on a date with his mother. Well, they couldn’t have that one, and he quickly nixed the idea before he could even consider it again. He needed something.
Jeremiah almost considered finding an associate or random female passerby to help him pick something, anything out for his mom that would be appropriate, be it clothing, a purse, or perfume. He even considered giving a her digital picture frame. Maybe he should stick with that fool proof plan. Before he could really make a decision, though, he felt someone very warm flinging their arms around him. He looked around to see that it was Poppy. She was a friend, right? He didn’t hate her, but he really wasn’t close to anyone. Plus, they didn’t know each other too well or for that long. Still, she was a good person and did not give him a reason to dislike her. In fact, she even remembered Jeremiah. He should have been happy about that, and he ultimately was. ”Hey Poppy,” he smiled and returned the hug, ”I know, but I’m still hoping something will jump out at me and say ‘BUY ME!’” Yeah, like that was actually going to happen. ”I’m trying to get something for my mom, actually. Her birthday is coming up and all she can seem to do is focus on me graduating rather than herself.”
