Character History:

Charlie Costello and Lily Taylor had been dating for a few months and Charlie thought that Lily was his sould mate. He thought that they would be together forever. He took everything very slowly with Lily, not wanting to lose her. Lily thought that Charlie was a gentleman but she didn't want to marry him. She kept dating him because she did like him a lot. She didn't want to hurt him but thought of him as a best friend more than a lover. Charlie didn't know this. Lily kept her eyes open for another guy and tried to please Charlie at the same time. Charlie stayed out of trouble. Lily, on the other hand, was trouble. One day, Lily dragged Charlie to a bar. They'd been dating for a year and a half. Charlie stayed with Lily as she got wasted away and he kept creepers away from her. He finally saw that she was going to do things that she regretted if he didn't ger her out of there. He forced her into the car and took her to his house. Lily threw herself on top of him when they were in his home and kissed him hard on the lips. When Charlie asked her to sleep off the drunkenness before she decided on what she wanted, Lily gave him a lot of grief. He felt guilty and let her throw herself all over him.

Before Charlie knew it, she was undressed and was attempting to pull off his jeans. He kept them on and locked her in a bedroom by herself. He wanted her to be rational before she did that kind of thing with him. She cried, moaned, and screamed. Charlie put his headphones in his ears and fell asleep. When he woke up that morning, he unlocked Lily's door and she still wasn't dresesed. She was bawling and guilting him over last night. Charlie made her breakfast and they stayed together in his house all day long. When it came dinner time, she manipulated poor Charlie. She told him she'd break up with unless they had sex. Charlie was sad that she wanted that so badly. He didn't want to lose her, so they hoipped in bed. The next morning, Lily was gone and he was left alone. Four months later, she showed up at his work and said, "You son-of-a-bitch! I'm pregnant and it's your fault!" Charlie left work early and tried to work things out with Lily over the baby. e wanted an abortio but Charlie was strongly against it. They finally came to an agreement. She would give birth to the baby but she would not raise it, Charlie would. She would leave Charlie behind and never talk to him again.

Charlie agreed to these terms but he was terribly sad that he would have to let Lily go and probably get pregnant again. He finally saw through her mask of being innocent and was disgusted but he was past getting over her. Five months later, Charlie went to the hospoital and was there when his son entered the world. Charlie Costello did not name his son until Lily Taylor left the hospital. Since he loved Lily so much, he named his son Taylor. He liked the name of James and it became Taylor's middle name. Charlie put his last name as Taylor's last name. Lily wanted no connection to her son. Taylor came to live with Charlie and they had to move in with Charlie's parents. They decided that Taylor was the son of Satan because he had corrupted Charlie's future. They refused to touch their grandson for fear they would be tainted. Charlie continued to struggle through college but gave it up for Taylor. He was a protective daddy but he'd picked up a nasty habit: smoking. It was when he was getting over Lily Taylor. He stopped dating and devoted his life to his son. He got a job that didn't pay much and rented an apartment. He didn't have nice things. Charlie didn't talk to his family anymore.

Taylor was one and a half when Charlie found out his son would be different forever. He was diagnosed with autism and until Tay was about two, Charlie believed it. He did a bunch of research and was prepared to deal with Taylor having autism. He got a call saying that Tay didn't have autism. He was taken to another doctor who decided he was mostly deaf. That was wrong also. The pattern continued until Charlie stopped taking him to the doctor. Charlie decided to tackle Tay's difficulty: speech. He worked with his son everyday and recorded everything. He went to work and earned enough to get by and get cigarettes. Tay was not doing as well as Charlie had hoped. He was not progressing with his speech hardly at all. Only Charlie could understand what he was trying to say. They both hated trying to help the poor boy communicate because it made his son miserable. When they went to the park, all the kids avoided him at all costs and Tay had to play by himself. Kyle, Charlie's brother, and Jess, Charlie's sister, came to visit and they both loved Little Taylor. Tay-Tay got along great with them too and fell asleep in Jess's arms. Owen, Charlie's other brother, was not told about Taylor because Charlie didn't want Owen to know.

Charlie didn't want Owen to know about Little Tay because he didn't like Owen very much and he didn't want Owen getting in the way of raising his own son. Charlie didn't need the stress of Owen trying to help raise Taylor. Taylor never seemed to complain and Charlie was even more protective of him. He let Tay sleep in his bed and he was completely devoted to his son's happiness. He continued working with Taylor but he was still not progressing very well. He signed Tay up for Tee-Ball when Taylor was four but found out that that didn't work very well. He was made fun of because of his speech issues. Charlie Costello got diagnosed with lung cancer from all the smoking and was hospitalized. Taylor stayed with him for two nights in the hospital and then Charlie decided Taylor needed to leave Florida and get a new life. Charlie was sure that he was going t die and plus, he didn't want Taylor to see the kind of pain Charlie was going to be in. Kyle wasn't able to take Tay because he didn't have anywhere for him to sleep. He couldn't get a hold of Jess. Charlie finally called Owen Costello. Owen got on the first flight he could to Florida. Taylor was terrified and he wanted to go home with daddy.

For the next three days, Charlie and Tay patiently awaited Owen. Tay slept with his daddy one more night until the nurse draged him to sleep in his own bed. Tay cried every night for his daddy and wanted to be with him. All day, Taylor watched cartoons with Charlie in the hospital bed. He watched Scooby Doo most often but also liked Pokemon or Spongebob Squarepants. Owen Costello finally arrived and he cried when he saw Charlie. Tay cried because Charlie was crying and Charlie was crying because Owen was. Owen got a hotel room for a week and took Tay to sleep there with him. Taylor liked Owen but they barely knew each other. Owe didn't seem to understand anything he said and it frustrated them both, even if Owen didn't show it. Charlie coached Owen all week on how to understand Taylor's way of speaking. Finally, it was time for Owen to leave and take Taylor with him. Owen went and packed Taylor stuff and they left on a plane to Seattle, Washington where they would drive to La Push, Washington. When they arrived, it was rainnig outside and Taylor was told it wasn't unusual. They got home and Owen collapsed on the couch and Taylor slept on the floor right next to the couch.

Now, Owen has set up the extra bedroom for Taylor. There is a used twin bed with Scooby Doo blankets and pillows. There's a small dresser and closet. Tay's old toybox sits in the corner filled with random toys. Owen has set up CD's for Taylor to listen to. They say different words and then pause so Taylor can repeat them. In addition to the CDs, Owen works with Taylor everyday. Owen's been distracted and has been so busy that he hadn't called Ashleigh in over three weeks. Taylor follows Owen around and Owen thinks of Taylor as his own son now. Owen even got a job as a laptop repair person to be able to support Taylor. Owen has bought Taylor a toy laptop and a cheap digital camera because Tay seems to be fascinated by pictures. Tay still sucks in the realm of communication but tries his hardest and never gives up. Owen and taylor are ostly content with each other's company. Did I mention that Tay is in love with the beach?

Personality:

Taylor James Costello is a sweet little boy and he hardly ever complains. He doesn't really "want" anything; he's happy with what material things that he does own. Even though that he is sweet and would be nice to just about everyone, he has no friends. It's because Taylor can't talk well. He has trouble comprehending 'how' and 'why' questions. He's difficult to understand because he can't pronounce words clearly at all. That makes it hard for other kids to play with him and even just talk about normal five-year-old stuff. Taylor does crave attention from other kids and will try to figure out how to talk correctly for hours at a time so he can get some friends. Tay also talks in third person. Instead of saying "I'm hungry.", he says "He's hungry." He just doesn't understand the difference. He doesn't understand why he has to live with someone he's never met, Owen Costello (otherwise known as Uncle Owen), either. He loves to play on the swings and he likes to play tag. He's energetic and loves to have fun. He wants to go back home to his daddy and be with him at all times. He doesn't understand why he can't stay with daddy at the "hotel". Tay has a normal IQ but he has to be home schooled. Numbers are also hard for him because of his speech problems.

Taylor doesn't like to color or draw and there really is no reason behind it. He prefers to be outside as long as it is sunny out there. He doesn't like rain and he doesn't like Washington. When he got to Washington (all the way from Florida), it was raining and Uncle Owen told him it rained all the time. Tyalor loves to explore and tends to wander off if he's not watched carefully. When he was four, Taylor James Costello played tee-ball and all his team mates made fun of him because of his speech problems. He tries so hard to fit in; he shares, he tries to talk normally, and he tries to join in games. Taylor is a picky eater and won't eat anything he doesn't want to. The things he will eat, he absolutely loves though. This little boy gets attached really quickly. He likes to be hanging on to someone that his attention bfocused on. Right now, Taylor can't be left alone because he gets too scared. He hangs on to Owen and cries and panics when Uncle Owen leaves him even if it's just with a babysitter. He is afraid of thunder and tries to hide from it; however, he's not afraid of the dark. He thinks if he can't see the monsters, they can't see him. That is Taylor James Costello.
