She also has gold/black eyes that comes with the choice to feed only animal blood.Her skin is a pale shade that sparkles in the sunlight. She has purple circles under her eyes just like the rest of the Cullens. However, these fade when she is well-fed. Her face is heart-shaped, and her figure is described as slender but rounded as she was changed not long after giving birth to her son.She is described by some people to have dimples on her face. She has compared to being similar to "one of the ingenues of the silent movie era" and that it was like "meeting Snow White in person".

Esme's past is not a very pleasant one. Born in 1895, she lived on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio. She had a small encounter with her future husband Carlisle when she was sixteen and was treated for a broken leg. She had dreams of leaving the town to go west to become a school teacher. However, due to her parents pressuring her, she remained behind. She later married a man named Charles Evenson at the age of twenty three to please her family. She later regretted this decision because her new husband was an abusive man. She carried on regardless, trying to be a good wife, with a lot of help from her parents. She got a reprieve for a while as Charles was drafted for WW1. It didn't last long enough as he returned in 1920. The abuse started back up and it was starting to get to Esme. She ran away only to discover she was pregnant with his child. She suffered further heartbreak when she lost her baby just days after giving birth.

Suffering the loss of her child, Esme couldn't take living her life anymore. So she threw herself off of a cliff, intent on killing herself. She was brought directly to the morgue, presumed dead, but she still had a beating heart faintly. Carlisle was working in the hospital at the time and recognized her as the happy, beautiful young girl he treated ten years earlier. To stop her from suffering any lmore pain and heartbreak, Carlisle decided to change her into a vampire.After a while she and Carlisle fell in love. When Esme first awakened as a vampire, Carlisle told her all about the vampire history and lifestyles; she joined the Cullens' coven in 1921, and later decided to marry Carlisle.Eventually the family grew.Rosalie and Emmett were transformed by Carlisle and Alice and Jasper joined the family. Later on, she welcomed Bella as a part of their "family" because of her warm nature, as she did with the rest of the coven. She has a special spot in her heart for Edward because he was the first of her adoptive children.

She played a small role in the days before Bella's conversion. She protected Charlie while her family hunted down James. She left Forks after Bella's disasterous 17th birthday party. She worked together with the Quiletes to defend Bella from the newborn army. She bonded with Renesme and teamed up with their own army to stand off against the whole Volturi to fight for Renesme's right to live. After the Volturi were detered, Esme began hr quiet life with her family. She lives in peace with Carlisle and her adoptive family. She spends a lot of her time cuddling Renesme or cooking for her soon to be adoptive grandson Jacob.
